Should Cabico replace my drawer boxes?

I am still working with Cabico on resolving the drawer glide issue. I have posted a link to the previous posting but in a nutshell the glides on my drawers were not Blum and should have been. Instead they were cheaper glides made by King. Subsequently many of the glides have become loose which causes the slide to rub on the drawer box. Many of the drawers now have varying degrees of marks from light scratches to deeper gouges on the sides of the drawer boxes. We have had to re tighten and even move screws to hold the glides on.

Cabicos response has been helpful, sort of. They are willing to replace the glides and pay for an installer to do this. I asked if we could have the new Blum glides that allow for easy leveling in 4 directions. My kitchen is mainly drawers and trying to keep the vertical and horizontal spaces even between them has driven me crazy. Maybe it is just these crappy glides but the beauty in these new Blum glides and the ease with which one can finely adjust the drawers has me dreaming! The rep told me this could not be done without modifying the drawer box. I actually bought one from Lee Valley and my DH installed it easily. I relayed this info and again asked about these glides. The reponse was I could have the glides for $50/ea...hmmm the cost at Lee Valley was $54. Went back and asked why they would want to make a profit from selling these to me then a quick back pedal that the rep had been given the incorrect price.

The new offer was that I could get the new glides for $20/ea but they would not cover the cost of installation OR I could get the regular Blum glides and they would cover the installation cost. I have a quote of $600 for glide installation. I have 46 drawers so no small job. I am disappointed they wont cover the cost of installation for the newer Blum glides - they are no different/harder to install than the regular glides and would they really cost $20 above their cost of the older Blum glides?

My real question here is what to do about the damaged drawer boxes? Is it reasonable to expect them to replace the ones that have been damaged? It was their mistake with the glides that caused the damage in the first place.

While they are replacing and covering costs for the glides it has been an issue dealing with the regional rep as his answers to my questions have in many cases been incorrect until I point things out to him and this has affected my trust level.

No one has an opinion? If your cabinets arrived with the wrong hardware that subsequently became loose and damaged/scratched your drawer boxes, would you want any kind of compensation or replacement from the cabinet company? Is this reasonable to ask them?

I am going to ask but just wondering what my level of expectation should be.

I can't help but wondered if you could clarify whether you had custom Cabico or the semi-custom Espresso line? I am working with a cabinet shop that recommends Espresso. I have other obstacles to overcome first, since my contractor turned out to be a big lemon and has (happily) ditched the project before we even started. But I did like the Espresso cabinets I saw, and was hoping to use them even with a new contractor. Your post worries me. I don't need any further headaches on this!

If the damage to your drawers was because of their inadequate glides, I would definitely think they should attempt to remedy that situation as well as the drawer glides themselves. Of course I'm sure you will definitely have to be a squeaky wheel. Have they addressed that issue at all or just the glides themselves?

My inclination would be to let the scratching etc go, unless it is a very visible problem or deep enough gouges to possible affect the structural integrity of the box (if only visible when the drawer is pulled out, I wouldn't care, That is just me, however, to you it might be more important). But, you should mention the damage to Cabico. It might prove to be leverage for getting the glides you want installed.

These were the custom line from Cabico and the damage to the boxes was definitely due to the hardware. As an update the boxes are all being replaced as well as the glides (but not the glides I wanted from Blum). The local rep did not inform me the boxes were also being replaced but once I asked about them he said the work order to make new ones was already underway. The local rep doesn't have the best communication but the company itself has definitely stepped up to fix their mistake. My garage is currently full of boxes and hardware waiting to be unpacked. Now I have to wait for a local kitchen installer to find time to do the work. It is work for us too since it will mean emptying out every drawer in the kitchen - something like 48 drawers!!

Oh well it's a good way to reorganize and declutter I suppose.
