2cm or 3cm are industry standards. 2cm is generally referred to as 3/4" and 3 cm generally 1-1/4" but there are variances in both. Usually a 3/4" slab is laminated at the edge to create a 1-1/2" profile at the self edge, but not always.

In your picture, the profile looks fairly slim, I would guess it's a 2 cm, and NOT laminated at the edge.

Ours are also 3 cm. Some of the 3cm slabs were less than 1 1/4", but for our perimeter counters they are slightly less than 1 1'4" (very slightly) and the island slab is exactly 1 1'4". I really like the look of the 3cm slabs, especially around the undermounted sink reveals. Your photo appears to be 2 cm I THINK...

My granite is 3cm and is pretty evenly 1 1/4

But the stainless are a bit thicker, at their shortest they're just a bit over 1 1/2" (center of the counter) and at the outside edges they're 1 5/8" (marine edge to keep water in).

I am guessing the slate in my photo is 2cm and the wood is 3cm. (?)

From what I've seen most of the wood countertops aren't recommended in thicknesses less than 2 1/2".

Among the Vermont suppliers I investigated, the standard thickness for slate is 1 inch. Most suppliers can custom cut to different thicknesses, however. The price and lead time will go up.

In the kitchen we have 3cm eased edge island, 3cm perimeter with a 3/16 round , (almost an eased but with a slightly softer profile. The kids bathrooms have 2cm eased edge only - looks great.. no lamination of edge, master bath 3cm eased edge. Honestly after seeing the 2cm with eased edge I could have done the island marble 2cm. I love the clean non laminated edge of all the counters. The backsplashes of 3cm material were planed to reduce the thickness.

Standard thickness' for granite are 20mm (3/4") and 30mm (1-1/4").

When I was researching Brazilian slate, the thickness' were 3/4" (20mm) and 1" (25mm).

What is the thickest granite countertop you have seen? Is 3" too thick. We really like the thick slabs of granite.

Mine are 3 cm. However my island is lamniated (ogee with bullnose) which totals 6cm
