Recognize this kitchen?

I was going through GW's 'Cool Kitchens' gallery & #13 shows this:

Such an interesting kitchen - I wonder how that peninsula is supported? Love the white with the dark.

Whose kitchen??? :)

Here is a link that might be useful: Very cool kitchen from GW's 'Cool Kitchen' collection

That sure would make sweeping easier ;)
I'd be scared that my kids would make that suspended shelf into a swing!

That "cool kitchens" thing is an advertisement.

I think it's for a design firm or something. It's not forum kitchens. For those, check the Gallery and the FKB.

plllog...thanks for letting us know. I just saw Gardenweb on it & clicked & I'm usually so careful. *sigh* Yes, I've been to the Gallery & the FKB...they're great.

I think this is one of those show-off "kitchens" that is really somebody's architectural tour de forces for a PH D or a trade show. It's all there for show. Microwave a pizza, open a can. Imagine processing garden veg for winter! Or serving 20 for dinner!

Okay, I was curious and went and looked more closely. It says "ADVERTISEMENT" on the detail pages, but the pictures were uploaded by "nbcu", a non-existent member whose initials are the same as the parent company (NBC Universal). So I'm not sure if it's real advertising (though all of the kitchens do look like they were designed by the same people), or if it's PR stuff.

I couldn't find where it said 'advertisement' unless it was on the original thing I clicked on. Oh well, it's ok...like florantha said...totally useless design.

That suspended counter intrigued me - I still wonder how they did that. Plus, I really like the white & darker together. We're still in the design phase of our house & I'm going round & round on what kind of cabinets to use. I love all white but I love the rich woods, too. So, I think I'm going to use a mix.

Oh, well, there are two sets of cables from the ceiling holding the peninsula up, and more holding that floating shelf and the light. If they're made right, quite thin cables can hold a lot of weight and be very stable. There's probably also a cantilevered bracket embedded in the wall.

Another case of "cool looking but impractical"?

This is just me, but the space under that floating peninsula seems wasted. There's not a whole heck of a lot of storage in that kitchen. But as florantha suggested, it's clearly not designed for real cooking.

IME, the more gimmicky something is, the less useful.

No, no! Didn't you see the guy who lives there! It's practical!! Really!
