Could you post a picture that shows your cabinets and floor? It might help us to see the "bigger picture" you are able to see when you look at the different tiles.

Your granite looks grey (cool) and your tiles look yellow (warm), so, not a good match with either color. Keep looking. Is there a reason you're sticking with American Olean? If you have a budget in $/sf please let us know.

Also, if you want yellow paint, think lighter and cooler yellow than what you have now, but I think yellow is not the most flattering color for your materials.

Easy solution is don't tile. You have a granite short splash, which shouldn't have been added if you planned to tile. It looks like you have very little area to tile on both sides, so I'm not seeing what it adds in function or decoration. I'd use a darker gray paint for contrast. Golds aren't working with the gray counter.

There is no reason that I am sticking to American Olean and budget is not an issue because it is a small space. I would like a backsplash to fix a problem I had with a space between the wall and the granite short splash. We tried grouting it but it looks lousy. Should I try soft greys ?

Yes, a gray would add continuity with the short splash and not make it so obvious that you have two different backsplash treatments. I would look at a 4 x 8" format for fewer grout lines.

The pulled back photos help give an overall perspective for opinions. I saw your original picture that was a close-up of just your counters so I know you were trying to pick up colors that are in your counter.. Add that picture into your posting again with the new pulled back versions too.

Both perspectives will help those who are REALLY good at this "picking-backsplash" business help you the most. Unfortunately for me, I am not one of those people; however, I am learning from the people on this site who have a great "eye" and sense of style. I clicked your post to continue "learning." You will find the right tile!

I like the gray tile better. It pulls the color from your granite.

I like the dark gray for contrast, but wonder how itwil look with SS appliances. Maybe put it near your sink to get an idea?

You need a gray between those two. The tan is about the right value of color, but too close in color to the cabinets. I like the cooler grays as a neutral with wood. You can see that the darker gray has a little blue in it when you put it near the sink, so you might find a tile less blue too.

The darkest gray matches your burners well, though honestly your pictures are too fuzzy to be sure.

I've seen the Sarah person on HGTV use that that kind of grey with your yellow and it looked great.
