Granite selection help!!

Our remodel planning is moving along, and we are making lots and lots of choices!! cream/beige cabinets, shaker style, no glaze....possibly painted BM Feather Down (or something similiar), Cherry Island with espresso stain. We are down to just a few ganite choice and I need input!!

Crema Bordeaux.....slabs with less burgandy, more creams, grays, and greens

Cosmic Black....more brown and black, less grey.

I think they both look stunning with the cabinet colors, my struggle is each changes the look of the kitchen...backsplash color choices, hardware, sinks, ect....any comments or suggestions??

My vote is for Cream Bordeaux. Although I love the look of the black granites on all the kitchen I see here, it comes down to maintenance. I have a giallo with lots of brown and taupe. You have to run your hands on the counter to make sure you have found all the dirt. On a dark counter, you will see all the crumbs and dust more easily.
Also, some say that you also notice water marks show up more on dark granite.
Do you have your idea for the backsplash? This might also weigh in on which granite you choose. For many of us here, the backsplash was the hardest, especially when it was not chosen when the granite was chosen.
My advise is to see the three elements together. The cabinet, the granite and the backsplash. This might help you decide which direction to go in.
Also, have you check out the Finished Kitchen Blog?

They are both great choices, but it depends on the style or feel you want your kitchen to have. You told us the materials, but not what style your kitchen will be. For me, the Cosmic Black seems like it would give the kitchen a more modern feel due to the striking contrasts in the material. It would be the focal point of your kitchen. The Crema Bordeaux would look good in kitchens that were both modern or traditional. Try a google search for each of the granites along with "counter" or "countertop" and check out the images that show up. It might give you some idea of what each looks like in a finished kitchen.

If you want less red/burgundy, you might also look at Neptuno (or Neptune) Bordeaux. Lots of grey/green/cream in it.

    Good luck with your decisions.

Crema bourdeaux would be my choice, havent seen the cosmic black. I heard a while back some of the blacks are died black from the less desireable grey/black/white speckeled granites. I think a water spot or ring would be more easy to spot on dark. But they say whites can stain easier. Go with what appeals to you. I have a gold black giallo granite tile and would love to upgrade to a white slab of some sort.

I have the Crema Bordeaux. Love it! It doesn't show dirt and crumbs, so you can clean it whenever you want!! I wanted as much burgundy as possible, but my slabs still had less than I would have preferred. I have "Fire and Ice" for my backsplash and they look great together.

I have Typhoon Bordeaux with black cabinetry in my master bath. Wonderful.

Thanks for your help! I would say my style is "modern shaker". We like clean lines, not overly modern, but not too tradiitional. I was thinking the same thing....that the backsplash needs to be thought about now too! I am meeting with the KD this week and I was going to ask her what her thoughts would be on backsplash for both granites. We both really loved the crema, that may be it! More to come after I meet with the KD,

The crema would probably be my choice. You just mentioned that you love it. I think that's the one then!

    Crema.

My vote would be for the Crema Bordeaux!
We just had it installed and it is beautiful! We have what I would call a traditional house, with a u-shaped kitchen. We kept all of our white appliances, just getting a new granite composite sink and a larger cooktop. As was mentioned, we are still struggling to find the right backsplash!! Since the granite has so much movement, I've found lots of good advice here on this forum. Since we need something a bit more neutral, I think we are going to pick a rhomboid shape to at least jazz it up a bit. Ann Sacks Diamante Gigante in Dorado Classic (or something like that). Fairly inexpensive (~$17. sf) mosaic on matting. Then, we'll just add a few accent 1x1's.
Crema doesn't show "dirt", but it can be a little frustrating to think you've cleaned it, only to catch something out of the corner of your eye! All in all, I think you will be very happy with Crema Bordeaux!

thanks ferrygirl! I am so anxious to talk to my KD to ask her opinion on backsplashes with both granites. I really love the crema!! Will get back to you when I have some ideas! Hoping to finalize cabinet measurements this week and place the order, so demo and install can begin right after Christmas!!

We have the crema bordeaux (although our stoneyard called it just "bordeaux," but it looks the same) with dark-stained cherry shaker-style cabinets, Because I wanted to keep it simple and highlight the beautiful granite, the bordeaux slab is also the backsplash, up to the bottom of the cabinets. The stone can really be appreciated on the vertical surface and it's easier to clean than grout lines. It is, however, more expensive to do this than to use tile for the backsplash.

I vote for the Crema Bordeaux! Please post pictures!

Lynn....will post pics when I have some to post! Still I. The ordering stages! Need to get the cabs ordered, but need to pick a BM paint color for them....therefore I needed to decide on a granite to help narrow down the bizzilion paint choices! Leaning toward Feather down for the paint. Having a sample door made to be sure. Pics as soon as I have them!

crema seems to get the nod...but the darker cosmic/or any darker, actually, with a white or off white subway backsplash would give you a really crisp feel...and keep the focus on that nice island you'll have.Depends on a few things, doesn't it.....have you thought about backsplash??
