Finally got around to looking through the latest Family Handyman magazine and low and behold now you can DIY granite!

The link they gave is www.doityourselfgranite.com but they also suggest searching for "granite countertop suppliers". The magazine is giving $18 to $25 per sq. ft. The article says after buying the tools you'll need and paying the shipping you'll still save about $1,500 on an average size kitchen.

It's on page 83 of the Dec/Jan 2011 issue. Yes, 2011. Jan. 2011.

Here is a link that might be useful: DYI granite

Pinch me, I just read the issue and went to the web site. Not sure what to think about it.

Anyone use this company before?

I had a client use it because they wanted to save money. By the time they paid for the tools, the shipping, the emergency room bill where the husband dropped a piece on his foot and smashed it, they were about 2K over my quote on installed Uba Tuba.

It's only cost effective if you don't factor in shipping and accidents and don't mind a lot more seams.
