You should probably contact Caesarstone or your fabricator to discuss this. If I remember correctly from my Caesarstone training you shouldn't put hot pans directly on the surface as it will damage the top. Therefore if your range doesn't have a backguard it would seem possible that the heat from a high gas flame might damage the surface. If you have a backguard it would seem possible, however the material is pretty thick - 2 or 3CM and very heavy. Electrical switches and receptacles might be an issue as well as how the thickness of the material would integrate with any windows, range hoods or the range backguard. I am planning to install 2cm slab marble as a backsplash on my range wall and I specifically put the outlets into the countertops so I wouldn't have to deal with them on the wall. My splash is big, 108"W x 60"H., so the fabricator may have to cut the marble into 2 or 3 sections to be able to install it. Tile would definitely be easier and less expensive.

I've had my Caesarstone countertops for 5 years now and I've been guilty of putting hot pots and baking sheets on them for most of those years. There's no evidence of this on the counters.

I can't imagine why you couldn't use this material for a backsplash.

On the other hand, if you didn't use it for your countertops, why go to the expense of using it for your backsplash?

I have the same question as "Khat." Cherry cabinets, pinkish antiqued 12x12 tile flooring (diagonally placed) and misty carrera countertop. I'm thinking of tumbled stone in a light pinkish tone or whitish gray with some mosaic glass tile trimming. Does anyone have pics of their misty carrera counter with a tile backsplash?
