Cabinets Installed!!

Here is a sneak peak. Frig goes under the arched niche. MW is next to that. Then pantry door and the clean-up sink run. We will also have an arched niche above the mantle. I decided it needs to be wider that that opening, so we will change that after Thanksgiving.

Thanks to everyone for helping me with floorplan over these last two years (whew!). Counters go in after Thanksgiving. I could get them in the day before, but I don't want to rush it. We relocated the kitchen, so I have another one to use on Thursday.

I have a secret lust for elaborate classical woodwork--the twist bead and the mouldings and the door style just feed my mania. Have fun with this wonderful tour de force of woodwork. Ceiling is also a wonder.

So beautiful at this stage. Can't wait til you post it finished. Your mantle, the arched niche in the doorway, all the details in the wonderful wood which has great color and depth. Love it.

Thank you all very much. I have been planning for 7 years, although the idea to relocate the kitchen transpired about 4 years ago. We started tearing out about 2 years ago. The cabinet guy and I sat for almost an hour planning and sketching the mantle.

I've learned the hardway that rushing into decisions is a bad idea, so that is why I am waiting for counters. Even if they were installed sooner, the electrical wouldn't be finished for Thanksgiving.

Here is my inspiration picture and a picture of the wall that was removed right about where the table is sitting. I blotted our the kids helping in their bathing suits. :)

In my new kitchen, you can see a hallway going past the sink area. That leads to a tiny foyer and an exterior door. If you turn left past the sink, you enter my moms bedroom. That original exterior door sat just beyond that blue wall in the old pic and was situated right about where the new pantry door is, only perpendicular. Basically, you exited the slider into hallway/foyer and then exited the front door (which is now going to be a side door to a courtyard).

I had the idea to push the door flush with the cooktop wall and put a sink and window on the same run as the cooktop. However, that design never sat well with me. It was Bmore's idea to take the door farther and run the sink perpendicular to the cooktop. This allowed us to build a more private entry to my moms room, THANK YOU, BMORE!!

The cabinets are Woodville RTA cabinets with full plywood. All this cost $7,000 including the $1,000 for assembly and installation. They built the mantle using all trim, and they built the MW shelf from scratch. We even had the everything furred (sp?) out an extra 1.5" for deeper counters and uppers.

Sizes are limited, so you have to be flexible. The cabinets were half the price of Kraftmaid and almost half of American Woodmark. These quotes didn't even include crown or end panels. And my top drawers are nice and deep so utensils won't get stuck. My best friend walked in yesterday and was speechless for about 10 seconds. Then she whispered to me, "This is f***ing awesome!!" She never cusses, LOL!

The granite will come in about $3,000 with an almost 9 x 3.5 foot island. Prices have really come down thankfully. We still have to tear out the far right wall and add the double oven cabinet and a buffet counter. However, the other side of that wall is my existing cooktop and I need it right now. That will be a separate purchase of cabinets and counter.

I ran all the electrical and hung all the can lights and drywal. Electrician ran everything to the panel and made sure all the wires were stapled and to code. My DH helped when I needed him, but I enjoy the work.

It feels awesome to see it in person after all this planning, but part of me feels guilty, as if I don't deserve it. Is this normal?

They are beautiful. I am so happy for you. What countertop did you select?

Maggie, under the arch is the frig alcove not a doorway. I new I would never utilize the cabinets over the frig and wanted a place to display colorful pottery.

Odie, I think we are going with Verde San Francisco. I would love Costa Esmerelda like Positano's kitchen, but it's not in the budget. Our backsplash will be a soft white with talavera (handpainted Mexican) tile accents.
