Trash Pullout Ideas

I'd love to get two separate trash receptacles in a cabinet less than 18 inches?

It seems that I've seen a mechanism that uses just the trash bags (without the plastic trash can) to collect trash.

I hate my current under the sink garbage can. Too many things seem to mysteriously fall out of it when I shove it back under that sink. In addition, I have no recycle bin, so cans and bottles are always set in the counter waiting for me to hall them outside.

Do you see any way I can get both the trash and recycle bin in less than 18 inches?

Are your cabinets frameless? If so, you may be able to fit a Rev-a-Shelf 5349-1527 in a 15" cabinet. It looks like the pullout mechanism is 11 5/8" wide. (I have a larger RAS 5349 series pullout that I love.)

Here are a few that work in 15" bases, if you're wanting to go smaller than 18":

I googled "double trash pullout 15" " and got these and many others. We're looking for one single (for trash) and one double (for recyling) that will fit in 15" bases, so I've been doing my own shopping for these. :o)

I have that Rev-A-Shelf double garbage pull-out in an 18" wide base. I really like it. I use one for recycling and one for regular garbage.

    Morton5,
Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I need every inch I can get and this certainly fills a big need for me. I so crave a double trash pullout, as I know from first-hand experience that being without one is awkward and unsightly (not to mention unsanitary at times - during periods of heavy-duty, on-going cooking).
I am definitely saving the pictures.
Also, I saw a recent post of your kitchen and loved the hood. You mentioned the maker, but did mention the sink brand. Could you tell me which sink you have?

Oldalgebra, I bought the sink on Ebay and don't have the listing anymore, but I'm pretty sure this is the one. I have it in a 30" base. I don't think you could go any narrower (in sink base) and still have room for the plumbing between the pullouts-- at least if you have a disposal. You could get a larger sink, though, and still have the set-up work. At my main sink I have a 30" zero-radius sink in a 30" cabinet. This sink is 15 gauge, and the edges of the sink rest on the sides of the cabinet. The top edges of the cab were dremmeled down a eight of an inch or so to get the sink flush with the top of the cab-- don't think this compromised the structural integrity of the cab at all.

Love my zero-radius sinks; they are very roomy. I got both sinks on Ebay from different vendors and my contractor commented on how good the quality was.

If you go this route, you must be very insistant that the plumber locate the waste pipe for the sink as far back in the cab as possible. Good luck!

I have Haas cabinets at my beach house and I have a 15" trash pullout that holds two bins and has a top drawer. The bins are not too small, in fact, I really wouldn't want them any bigger. The cabinets are framed. Unfortunately, I don't know which insert they used, but I know Rev-a-Self makes a two bin pullout for a 15" framed cabinet.

Two things to point out quickly:
    1. You do not want mechanism that uses just the trash bags without the plastic trash can. One little leak and you have a nasty stinky mess.
    2. When you say less than 18", others have been assuming that you have 15" available - I managed to fit a rev-a-shelf trash pull-out one one side of a framed 33"cabinet (so I had 16 1/2" available). It holds 2 35 qt trash containers as opposed to the smaller 27 qt ones so you don't have to empty quite as quickly (particularly helpful for recycleables). It might even fit in a 15" frameless cab.

Oldalgebra, I was thinking about all you are trying to fit into your sink cab (trash and that nifty drawer, right?). Are you planning on having a dishwasher next to your sink? The plumbing for that takes up a bit of space in my clean-up sink cab, and I don't think I would be able to fit two trash pullouts in that cab as well. It's a 30" cab, and I have a 12" trash pullout nearby. In my kitchen, the under-sink pullouts are under my prep sink, and there is no DW there that needs to connect to the disposer.
