Backsplash is In

My kitchen install completed approximately 1 year ago. Since then I have had a couple of backsplash posts and I have really spun in several directions. My original thought was a ceramic crackle tile and I wanted it to have a rustic feel, not too modern. Well off I went into a spin. Initially I didnt see a tile I liked. Then,I found some gorgeous handmade tiles by Syzygy TIle but could never get a glaze that worked for me, and after a while they felt too rustic. Off I went into glass tile land, but it felt too modern. The whole time I also struggled with where to run the tile.
I am so happy with the end result. I ended up using a combination of crackle subway and glass. Though I always said I didn't want a 'feature' over the stove I ended up with one and I love it. It is subtle because the backsplash as a whole is fairly monochromatic. The different shape behind the stove and the glass's additional reflective quality of the feature adds some softness and femininity, to an angular and fairly masculine space.
Many many thanks to those of you who offered suggestions, support and Photoshop assistance as I traveled this road. I do I still need a nice clock for the space to the right of the stove, but here is my kitchen with backsplash:
Custom cabinets in dark walnut(perimeter), island in BM Providence Olive, countertop of brushed Madre Perla, backsplash Trikeenan Modulus subway in Moonshadow with Glazzio Glass tile Versailles series in Cloud Lining.

Really nice! I love Trikeenan Modulus tiles...just couldn't find the right place for them in my current house...maybe next house. That's a beautifully serene kitchen!

Really nice! Can you post some close ups?

Looks lovely! Are the feature tiles arabesque? It's a little hard to make out. But it is impressive how well the tiles match!

    NICE!!!!

Oh that is just wonderful. Good choice... perfect. That color is just beautiful with your wood beams and I think the feature tile is very subtle and tasteful. The lights look great. And may I say that I really like the valances, too.

So nice, local... good for you! Are you finished now? :)

Hooray! That looks terrific localeater... The clean lines of how you ran it go beautifully with the rest of the kitchen. I always love seeing pictures of your kitchen, love it.

Hey, check out this neat hanging clock. Don't know if it's big enough or even if you like it, but I think it's pretty neat. I like your idea about letting the perfect thing find you... it seems to work if one is patient.

Oh what pretty tiles. It's a nice feeling when something 'fits' and you know it.

Now in the closeup I can see your shade in the window. Are those solar shades or where, what. Details?

Your backsplash is beautiful. The feature behind the stove is both subtle and striking. Love your lights above the window too. I am sure you will find the perfect piece for the wall on the right of your stove. Be sure to post it when you do.

localeater, your entire kitchen is so gorgeous and unique. The backsplash really gives it a fine finish. I love how you combined the subways and arabesques. I confess I don't know where the glass is. It's all just beautiful.

I like it even more seeing it close up. Great choices. Love how you put different type of elements together for a wonderful kitchen.

I'm so glad you posted the closeups. The combination of the two tiles is beautiful and what lovely colors. To find two different tiles from different manufacturers that blend so perfectly....amazing.

Local - I love your backsplash and so glad you posted pictures. Is unique like your kitchen. I love everything about your kitchen!
Congratulations and welcome to the ABB alumni club

Wow, that is one cool kitchen. So unique and warm. Great job.

Yes I am no longer ABB and it was coincidentally almost a year to the day. The kitchen install started the day after Thanksgiving 2012 and the tile was grouted the day after Thanksgiving this year.
Deedles(BTW I am watching your in progress pics with excitement) The windows have solar shades from Budget Blinds in Signature Series/Bark Pattern-Tiger Oak, it is a brown-gold with green undertones. The are cordless. I thought I wanted woven wood, but these are more practical in the kitchen. If they get soap or cooking splatters they can be sprayed with cleaner and wiped off with a sponge. I love that.
Thank you for posting the clock, that is cute but I want something bigger or more art-like, more unique.
Linelle- the arabesque shaped tiles are the glass ones.
Romy- I know I cant believe the 2 tiles; one ceramic and the other glass, look so perfect together. When I originally found and fell in love with the glass tile the tile store told me that the manufacturer made 2 x 10 glass subways to match. But turns out they were only special order in huge quantities. As we worked through that obstacle I realized that all glass would have pushed the backsplash too modern and that it was lucky. The tile shop helped me find the matching ceramic. They actually gave me two shades of Trikeenan Modulus that they felt worked- the one I have, Moonshadow and Cream Soda. Honestly I think either would have worked, the Cream Soda color was more gold which I did like but I think it would not have created as calm of a backdrop as there was a slightly more pronounced color difference in the ceramic and glass . In the end I went with my gut and I am more than satisfied.

I LOVE your kitchen: the beams, the counters, the cabs, the windows, ...well you get the idea!

Thanks for posting the follow up!

    Cheers

I love this, thanks for posting! Good on you for waiting patiently until you found/find exactly the right thing!

Never caught that the arabesque were glass. Wow, that is amazing to have found such a color match. Now I love that even more... seems like when you have to try too hard for something to work, it's not supposed to. Then, all of a sudden as you said before, it kinda plops into your lap. Serendipity!

Like the solar shade idea, too. Might look into one for my kitchen window... faces west and gets awfully bright in summer.

(glad to know you're out there watching!)

I'm a lurker here for about a year and have been anxiously awaiting this backsplash:) Funny thing was I did my kitchen prior to finding GW and I have Madre perla counters; was abb for a few months. Initially I thought syzygy was my tile too and in the end I chose something else as well.

    YOur kitchen looks great!
