Refrigerator placement

In the following picture, the sink and cooktop location are fixed, but double wall ovens and a french door frige (recessed into the wall) will occupy places marked 1 and 2. Which should go where and why, we are thinking frige in #2 in order to have ovens close to cooktop and sink. thanks

The only concern I would have is the unloading of stuff from fridge to sink distance (have to go around island or use it as dropping zone then walk around and re-grab) for prep work.

Your plan is a little difficult to read, but I do have some questions....

How wide are the double ovens & refrigerator?

How much space is on the cooktop wall?

Which do you use more...the ovens or the refrigerator?

Your island is a "barrier island" for whatever you put on the south (bottom) wall... If there's room on the cooktop wall, I think I'd rather have the refrigerator there so the island isn't blocking access to it. It would still be on the periphery so non-kitchen workers could get to it w/o interrupting the work in the kitchen.

The downside is that the ovens will open into a walkway b/w whatever is to the north (top) and east (right) of the kitchen and whatever is to the southwest of the kitchen (through the "arch").

    BTW...where is your MW? DW?

Thanks for the help, to answer your questions

The double ovens will be 30" wide while the fridge will have a 38" opening.
The cooktop wall has about 10' on it to the pantry door. Below the kitchen is the DR and to the right is dinette/ family room. I thought we could move the fridge right down to the pantry door to give it better access without interfering with island as much. We definitely use the fridge more than the oven.

Also MW is OT Cooktop and DW is to left of sink. Thanks for your help

I guess it depends on how you cook. I use the cooktop much more often than the oven. I do a lot of frittatas, stir frys, etc, and I'd want the frig handy to the cooktop and sink, with the ovens in 'Siberia'-- off by themselves in the #2 spot. Several upsides: the counter beside the ovens could be your bake center, where the mixer, flour canister etc. live; You need the sink for a lot of stuff coming out of the frig [washing veg, etc], but rarely need to go right from the oven to the sink... unless you've set something on fire.

I'd like the frig in spot 1 but scootched down a bit toward the pantry door. How wide is your aisle between your sink and island? It looks wider then in other areas. Aisle beween proposed spot 2 for DO and island?

    Thanks for the help
Remodelfla- Aisle b/w sink and island is 42", other 2 aisles are 36, but the island may need to be bumped slightly some direction depending on where the frige is and how much it can be recessed into wall.

I would go for the oven in position 1 and the fridge in position 2.

As someone else has already said it depends on how you cook. I use my oven alot, and transfer things from cooktop to oven so I need it nearby.

Imangine yourself cooking the meals you do most often and think about the path you would take.

I would seriously consider separate MW & vent hood. OTR MWs are not very effective as vents and very inconvenient to use b/c (1) they're so high off the floor and (2) you have to reach over a potentially hot cooktop to get into it to stir or place/remove items...which also means you're in the way of someone working at the cooktop. I think you have enough of space for them.

As to the cooktop wall...you have 10' to play with...

    36" for corner + 30" cooktop + xx + 38" for refrigerator + 6" b/w pantry door & end of cabinet/counter run = 110"

That leaves you with 10" b/w the refrigerator & cooktop. So, unless you're OK with only 10" of workspace on the one side, I don't think the refrigerator will fit on that wall.

But, if you put it in #2 and put a prep sink in the island it will greatly improve the functionality of having the refrigerator over there; it mitigates most of the issue I have with the "barrier island" since it's not a barrier for the cooktop, just the main sink. Of course, you lose the nice "Baking Center" w/ovens next to larger expanse of counter. Some things to think about. The prep sink will also increase your potential prep area by having 2 water sources.

I've done a rough mockup of both ideas. Oh, I would not go w/the diagonal cab/counter int the corner if you move the cooktop next to it. I'd rather have a little "breathing room" b/w the sink wall counter & the cooktop. You'll see what I mean in the pics.

But, b/f we get to the pictures, the DW placement is a concern. If it's to the left of the sink it will interfere w/anyone at the cooktop...they'll be backing into an open DW and believe me, that hurts (especially the corners!)

See what I mean (red square is the open DW door and the red circles are the work areas for the cooktop & sink).

I think the DW would be better on the other side. You could put an 18" trash pullout to the left of the sink...maybe move the sink & DW to the left to have a little more room for a 12" drawer bank b/w the corner & trash pullout.

Here are the two ideas I talked about above:

Notice there isn't much room b/w the cooktop & refrigerator. But you have a nice Baking Center.

Here's w/the refrigerator in position #2. More potential prep area b/c of the prep sink.

Crabapple and Buehl: How did you post your plans? I would like to do the same thing but I'm not sure what to do. If you posted through Photobucket I can't seem to get an account to work - my husband thinks it might be a Vista problem or that we live overseas and the site doesn't recognize our computer. Would appreciate your help! TIA

Yes, I use PhotoBucket. In the case above,

    1. I created the plans in MS PowerPoint,

    2. Saved them as "jpg" files (File --> Save As --> JPG),

    3. Edited them (cropped & resized) in MS PictureManager,

    4. Uploaded them to PhotoBucket ("Choose Files"),

    5. Copied the "HTML Code", and

    6. Pasted the code into the "Message" box.

    Buehl
Thanks for all your help. To address some of the issues.
I understand your point on OTR MW and Prep Sink, but I don't know that the budget will allow them. But I will consider. Also, I'll confirm with KD but I think we had a 12" cab on each side of the corner unit to seperate the CT and DW from each other. I see your point if RF is on CT wall, there may be a tight space b/w the 2. Also, the angled corner bottom cab is there b/c there will be an appliance garage above it (under corner top cab) and wanted counter space to pull out appliances and use. Thanks for your thoughts, any other ones would be great and Ill post when i get more specifics.

Buehl: Thank you so much for your instructions re posting plans. We will see if we can make Photobucket work and then use your tips. Hopefully, I will be posting soon!
