Matching Old and New Cabinets

We are bumping out a wall in our kitchen to make room for a bigger island and seating. We plan to redo the fridge/oven wall below and island, but keep our other maple cabinets along the window. Want to replace those countertops with soapstone and do white quartzite on the island.

Our cabinet maker can't replicate the cabinets, so we were thinking of doing a slate island and slate new cabinet wall. So it would be tan maple window cabinets with soapstone, new cabinet fridge/oven wall of slate cabinets with soapstone, and slate island with white quartzite countertops. Do we have too many finishes? We could try using maple cabinets along the wall that won't be identical but close. Really not sure why to do. Any options or ideas please!

I meant, is that what you mean by slate cabinets? I think it would be fine to do that but you could think about using the same stone on counters and island if you're afraid of too much going on. I think that would be better than close but not quite wood cabinets.

The cabinets are called slate - I attached a pic of them and the wall we're knocking down. It's like a dark brown/black. Since the cabinets will now be built into the wall further could look nice to have them look like furniture. Thoughts?

I like that a lot! I'm still not sure about both quartzite and soapstone but pretty sure it's not too much.

I'm wondering what you ended up doing with your Maple cabinetry? My dilemma is almost exactly the same. We tore down a wall to add on to our kitchen cabinets, which are Maple too...We need to get an Island and some pantry cabinets. We know that new maple is much lighter then what we have. So, we don't know whether to buy Maple and try and match with countertops OR go with another color entirely such as black or cherry?? we also plan to get new flooring and countertops. So I would love to hear from you to knew what you went with and see pics of your new kitchen! Thanks!

We went with a dark wood on the island and new cabinets, then Silestone in Lagoon for all countertops. We also replaced the appliances and had our floors refinished, added flooring from where the wall was knocked out. Here's a pic. Little different now, added pictures and some color with a rug and stuff, but you get the idea. Hope this helps!
