Time to Update the Exterior

We are on our second remodel in 2 years. This one will be a lot more work than our first. We have completely gutted the interior and are now ready to tackle the outside.

I am thinking about painting the garage door, wrapping the bottom have of the columns in stone, getting a new stained wood front door and then either painting the old shingles, laying hardy board over the top of them, or doing cedar shake.

We don't like the color of the trim, any ideas on that?

We are looking for ideas on color or materials! Thanks for your help!

Board and batten siding would look nice near the entryway. The posts are also fun. It would look nice to extend the roof so that you have a good sized porch.

You have already put a lot of money into your house, and some of your exterior ideas could prove quite costly unless you are doing all of the work yourselves. It sounds as if you have a yen for the Craftsman style with the shakes and stone idea. If your current materials are in good shape, maybe you can get the look with color, updated lighting and instead of tearing everything off and starting over. Making your front walk look a bit more like a garden path, with some additional landscaping out from the foundation of the house, could be really nice, and doesn't have to be high maintenance, either.
