Take a door with you to the slab yard. Don't fall in love with any stone beforehand. It's the look of the whole that counts when everything is installed.

Our cabinets are a glazed maple, maybe a bit darker than yours. We chose Colonial Gold and have been very happy with the choice.

That kitchen is beautiful. Live with it a while before making costly and wasteful changes. The inspiration photo counters would probably go, but you would need to put them side by side. The inspiration backsplash looks green to me and I'm not nuts about how it goes in that kitchen.

I would definitely recommend taking the cabinet door to the stone yard with you. Fantasy Brown is one of my favorites! Good choice!

I think your wall color is not right for your beautiful cabinets

Thanks for all the advice! I definitely agree that changing the wall color is a must. If I can find a "greige" paint that has cool/neutral brown and grey tones it should help me visualize what the kitchen will look like without all the warmth. The pictures I've found online with cabinets like this make the cabinets the "stars" of the kitchen. For my taste, I want the granite and backsplash to be the "wow" factors and the cabinets, walls, and floor to play supporting roles. My gut says the room also needs some white space to offset all the colors, textures, etc., but other than a mostly white granite I'm not sure how to best accomplish this. My big problem with the existing granite is that it is a "builder grade" granite that is really prevalent here locally... and it's also very common here to have a formica counter that looks like faux granite in this color/pattern. I'm so over it!

Have you thought about changing the color of the cabinets? It can be done relatively inexpensively.

I agree with Tiffany. The cabinet color is your roadblock to getting the look you want. I suggest you invest in having them stained darker, like your inspiration photo. It may not be inexpensive, but I think it's better to do that than live with a compromise.

Try going darker on the walls and see if that doesn't make those cabinets "pop"

Thank you! It helps to see a similar cabinet with a mix of grays. I think I'll start with a new wall color; then look into re-staining the cabinets if I still can't get it to look good. The cabinets really are very neutral (not warm in tone), so maybe refinishing the floors with a better paint color would also be a good option to cool things down. I appreciate the ideas!

Your kitchen is better than most people have and it's beautiful. If you must change the backsplash to something in a rectangular tile. Look for a new pantry door maybe with frosted glass. Also agree a darker wall color would make the cabinets pop.

Have you thought about adding some drama with a nice window treatment (Roman shades?) in some of that darker colour? What about a darker crown moulding? Perhaps replace some of the doors with glass or mirrored fronts or an open upper cabinet here or there but keep it balanced?

More bling could also be had with pulls or handles rather than the knobs, but you might want to keep them dark.
