It is a bit heavy, rather Pompeiian, but then so is the bed, so it sort of works. If it's really too heavy for you, you might think about repainting the red parts to match that sandy tannish color of the shades. That color is actually nice and warm, picks up on the rug color and complements the gold walls quite nicely.

Hi, If you are looking to make the room a bit lighter in feel - you can use a lighter color that blends with the wall. Start by painting just the ceiling and then see if the rest of the panels should be done also. Hope this helps.
