I do agree it is getting out of hand lol! We have to be approaching the peak of white kitchen? I'm afraid when they go out they will go out fast.

Disclosure - my new kitchen will have a white island! I cant even stop myself!

My problem is that I always get in on a trend just before it fades away and then I'm stuck with an outdated look. But right now the wood cabinets are not so appealing.

Part white is a good idea. I see many photos with combinations. My builder might not make it an option.

I think they are classic, but I also think mixing colors of cabinets is wonderful. Wood cabinets are not out and those white cabinets are wood. You might think of what you really want and what colors might be different and pleasing to you. Look up aniline dye on houzz. I love it.

White kitchens are timeless so that is why they are so appealing, you can put whatever counter colour , tile or flooring you like and it will all match. Having a mix would be a nice compromise.

White is classic so you can't go wrong with it but I agree with jn3344, it's been done to death lately! Starting to see other colours, especially darker on lower cabinets and white on top. Grey seems to be particularly popular. I've just painted our kitchen (walls and cabinets) in a cream colour (Behr Vanilla Custard) to match living room, family room and halls and I love it. Go with whatever gives you joy!

White kitchens are clean and such the trend right now. I don't think they'll be going away anytime soon because white is such a versatile color. However I love a gorgeous stained color just because it can be more unique and not really what everyone else is doing. Even a grey taupe paint grade color or the grey stains I've seen can break that "white cabinet mold". You can mix the two to add a little warmth to an all white kitchen.

You still see white, but you see it with different colors and finishes. Like Katiede says, grey is a good complement. That's what my perimeter cabinets will be - a grey stain on maple. Then brushed aluminum uppers. So three colors. A white island wont seem so stark.

See what your builders options are. Yes, there is a certain timelessness about it but honestly does everyone in North America need a white kitchen or can someone do something else?

I think because a kitchen is such a big investment you don't want to get it wrong. Unfortunately all those people in the late 80's and early 90's who got Oak kitchens saw them go out of favour within 10 years and now they are being repainted and restained because don't like them. Wood is lovely and if you stick to something classic like a dark walnut stain you will be alright. Hope this helps.
