Cabinets done wrong

We requested full face doors on shaker style cabinets. The ones built and installed are not full face! Long story... Contractor offered to replace doors at his cost but since cabinet frame is not built to hold full face doors, new ones would come all way to bottom and all way to top but would still show frame on sides. Would new doors look better and more like full face or do these look good enough that should I just leave well enough alone? Help! We love the rest of our new kitchen.

The 45 degree angle can't be full overlay as the doors on either side would not open. The same is true for the cabinet that you show to the left of the oven cabinet. If the door goes all the way to touch the oven cabinet then it won't open - there is no room for it. There are some custom cabinet makers that incorporate the light rail into the frame which gives the look of a larger frame on the bottom - not sure if that is how yours is done.

I would put crown molding on the cabinets and keep them as they are. They appear to be nice.

Tks. We are over budget on our remodeling. My husband did not want moulding at top of cabinets be cause of crown moulding above on wall. What moulding would you suggest that would look good with cabinets with out being too busy?

Most cabinet companies provide a simple shaker crown for cabinetry. They would have to produce it to match the finishes of your cabinets and then it can be installed. I would not worry about having crown on the cabinets and on the wall. They don't fight each other visually as long as you select something simple. The crown on the top of the cabinets will offset the look of the extended bottom rail on the cabinets and will balance it out.

Tks., Deborah! This is a different view. The vent hood is not finished. It will be stainless steel when the white covering comes off. We designed everything ourselves. Not professionals but I do get ideas from Houzz!

Thanks for all the nice comments. This is our "retired" house and we wanted to do something different from carved dark wood cabinets and cluttered looks. Simple but nice.

What you are looking at is called door overlay. It is controlled in part by the hinges. It can be from 1/2 to 1/4". It is the amount the door overlaps the frame. I think it looks fine. If I was given the option of new doors I would convert the small overlay double doors into one large inset door per frame or even one large overlay door. The white doors are smaller then average. Also things always look different in real life.
