Good luck. Even the same manufacturer can have differences in colors between dye lots produced within days of each other. These look like they might date back to the 60's or 70's. If you have some broken tiles, you might be able to replace them with a contrasting inset that looks intentional. If the floor is in good shape, getting it professionally cleaned could take care of the paint issues. If there are chips, you an sometimes repair them, depending upon severity. Cracked tiles, as long as they aren't shifting, can be touched up. Otherwise, you are looking at a major expense and a lot of sweat for removal and replacement.

They look like terra cotta/saltillo tiles grouted with cement. Are they slightly "puffy" on top, so that the floor surface is raised between grout lines rather than flat? I have similar tiles and haven't been able to match them locally even though I live in Mexico. One supplier referred to them as "Super Saltillo", but I don't know if that's universal terminology or just Mexican.

Why do you need to match? Are some cracked? Have a tile specialist come in to see what he can do for you.

Those tiles were probably laid in the old way with wire mesh & 4 inches of cement. Try to have them repaired rather than replaced. BIG JOB!

You are right laid with mesh directly into concrete.. I kuve the look just going to figure out out fill in spaces

My hope is back then they laid all the concrete before studding walls so maybe if i take down an interior wall there will be brick tile underneath it??!

good luck in trying to relocate the tile that you find. it would require too much work and time in my opinion

When "harvesting" tile from one area to place in another, you probably have to figure in a 50% attrition rate (the amount of breakage). If you need 50sf that means you have to lift 100sf just to get 50sf of reusable tile. If you only need a few tiles (5-10) then it is worth while. If you need to install 100 - 300sf then you won't have enough.

Don't forget to factor in double the labour costs for demolition (the person has to take the time and be careful) as well as the installation cost. You might find your project is close to the same cost as full removal and replacement....just for those extra few feet.

Removing a wall to harvest tile that isn't there would be a bit odd. No one installs tile underneath walls/studs. Walls are cheap...tiles and their installation are expensive. You don't install expensive stuff underneath cheap walls. It doesn't make sense.
