You should be giving advice, not asking for it! :-) It's interesting without being cluttered, and doesn't looks as if you bought the display at the store. Pat yourself on the back and relax.

So if I add books how would I use them? I do like a clean line look, would books make it to busy?

They look too shallow to do much more than you've done, so I'd leave it as is. I like that you've left some shelves empty so the eye can rest. My main suggestion would be to replace the table and lamp on the right side. The table should come to within an inch of arm height on the sofa and the table and lamp together should reach 58-64" above the floor.

I would put some with interesting spines vertically, next to other objects. Then put some horizontally under a small vessel or decorative item! It looks like a really nice room!!

I think it looks wonderful. IF anything, you could move the two small white vases to top shelf over print. Leave shelf near bottom empty and look for darker item for the shelf second from the top. You've done a lovely job and I'm sure it took you a lot of time.

It looks great! Love that wall! I might add 2 areas with books - but all in black and white to balance the black and white framed pictures. Like right above the tv, below the blue plate. Are those shelves movable? Is so I'd eliminate empty spaces by removing an empty shelf and leaving more negative space within a cubby rather an an empty cubby. (Like between the 2 white vases on the far left.

I think this project is very nicely done and is a great addition to your home, I might consider adding brighter lighting or some small lamps above the bookcase to highlight higher items, but all in all this is a great piece of work worthy of the pros. Great job :)

It looks lovely, but I would remove the figurine in the bottom left corner, it doesn't really fit with the decor. Also, like others have suggested, a few books would look good in the bookcase.

I wouldn't worry about one little figurine not matching, after all, art deosn't HAVE to match the room, but I would put a few books on the shelves as others have suggested.

Looks great. Designed great. One suggestion. Paint the backboard of your bookcase the same blue as your wall. It adds depth and melds the unit as one with the room. Beautiful room and color choice.

Bright aqua and yellow-green look nice together and who's to say a pillow or fabric wrapped around a Michael's canvas couldn't be placed on a shelf / or better yet, 3 spaced around, like your vases are? You have many 'hard' objects. There seems to be a bit of true green already, but pillow or object that adds that is nice....

Beautiful. I found two empty ones next to each other. I would also change the position of the two white objects placed on top of each other each with an empty space above. Picky. Picky! Switch one of the white ones to another spot & use the empty ones for small books. Really the empty ones keep your eyes moving around, which is good, however I love to see some books in a bookcase. Tell me did you buy the TV just to fit that spot or did you rearrange the shelves to fit it in? They say good design is in the details. hahahaha

Just my idea, cause you might have lots already - but for that wall, you might try adding more greens to tie in your throw.

No books needed and empty, negative space is needed to give the eye a rest. Otherwise it will be cluttered.

I agree, Crown, especially with all the empty spaces being next to each other. And bichonbabe, it is a BOOKSHELF, after all.

It works either way, and you may appreciate an occasional change. The one thing I'd advise is when you have several small, unremarkable pieces (see the two little white items up top over the TV,) they would have more impact if grouped with a third item (perhaps the equally unnoticeable piece far bottom right.) This is where you could use some books to lift one of the three above the others and to add color below them. Or the two could flank an item that has more height and color. Limit books to hardbacks that have good color for your space.

You can always add interest to the backs of the shelves when you want a bigger project.

i think it looks great as is. The color scheme looks great, and is very soft on the eye. I think going with that same color scheme with decorative pillows, and furniture would bring the room together nicely.

Nancy, not every shelf is a book shelf. These look like DISPLAY shelves to me.

I am biased - having a slight (cough) addiction to books, I need all of the bookshelves I can get, especially so that I don't over-fill. This is lovely, I would probably buy the house just for those shelves, but that's just me.

Good idea, painting the back a color that picks up from the room. Personally, I would remove a few dividers & put a lot of books in there. I like books. I even read them.

I really love most of the suggestions offered. After posting my original, usually I enjoy reading posting. What strikes me most and I agree is the lack of books. You do not have to embellish all the shelves but a spattering of books would be a welcomed addition. The above picture is a nice way to display some. I stack several and place a favorite dish etc on top. Some books standing and others laying down. Intergrate your collection and the bookcase will add interest to all who views your unit. Hope this works for you
