need help with lighting for living room

I am lighting challenged. I bought the sonneman puri flush mount in bronze which blends perfectly with room and chandelier over the dining table. I have no light by the bookcase and white leather recliner with a jbox near the white chair. Cement ceilings negate hi hats and slate floors will not allow for floor lamps do to exposed wires.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

I don't think you're lighting-challenged at all! In fact, I think you have really great taste in lighting. Isn't that a Corbett Lighting chandelier? It's beautiful.

For the area by the bookcase and recliner, with the knowledge that floor lamps won't work, you could maybe try a small accent lamp that could even be placed in the bookcase or on the media center and treated like another nice piece of decor. This would be more labor-intensive, but a stylish wall sconce might fit on the wall between the bookcase and media center to provide some more wall lighting.

But you say there's a junction box above the white chair? I see something on the ceiling above it. Considering there are doors beneath it, I won't suggest a pendant or chandelier or anything that hangs down low. Another flush mount would be a good idea. In fact, you could even go for another Puri, but if you want to change it up a bit, here are some possible ideas.

simple buy another chandelier were that other ceiling light is twins are always better

THANK YOU. Great suggestions. I thought another puri might make it look like a fire sale (which it is not). Thoughts? Yes it is a Corbett chimera which is stunning.

I contemplated wall sconces where the large picture is behind the chair and was told by people I would not get the amount of light I was looking for. Hence the jbox. Which of the above will give the most light? The crystal flush mount looked elegant.

The flush mount, in bronze, is beautiful. I don't understand the inability to get floor lamps because of wiring on a slate floor? I've never heard of that. That would mean you couldn't get a table lamp, either. Could you explain that? I'm really confused about that comment; maybe I am misunderstanding. Sconces are nice, but that does require an electrician coming in and messing around with your interior wiring and cutting into walls.

Where do you have wall outlets? You may have to do some arranging to take advantage of them.

I was just browsing around when suddenly recognized that beautiful living room with chandelier over the dining table. I am sure it is a beautiful one! :-)

kapj17, of the fixtures I showed you, I would say that either of the Feiss fixtures or the Glimmer would provide you a lot of light. I hope this helps!

I was thinking of the glimmer in polished chrome versus the bronze. Thoughts? I love the laser cut fixture but think it is too contemporary for the space. Many thanks!!

I'm still confused about the slate floor and "exposed wires." That blows my mind. Don't get it at all.

So if floor and table lamps are out of the question, I vote for the last Feiss fixture (last link provided by Lights Online above). It meshes (but not exactly the same) with the flush mount you already have. And if you're keeping that chandelier over the table, do you really want something else competing with that? If something could, it would have to be bigger and bolder, and then I think you become a lamp store.

I would have wires across sate floors in high traffic areas if I used floor lamps. I can not drill into slate as below the floors is concrete. No one should trip over cords. I am leaning to the maxim glimmer is polished steel. Elegant, simple and understated. Love the et2 but it's too much of a statement. The second jbox is 10-11 ft from the puri jbox. the puri is 22 in. diameter. Thank you for your input.

Thanks, kapj17, for the clarification on the wires. I have table and floor lamps in every single room (including a room with a slate floor), as do a lot of people-I'm sure- and no one trips over cords (in my house). The cords are typically tucked out of site, behind bookcases or tables or chairs. Your space doesn't look that minimalist that this wouldn't work in your house, too. Typically, in most localities, a certain number of outlets along a wall are required by code. At any rate, I have never been in a house where cords for lamps were hidden within a floor (from holes being drilled in them for the cords), nor where they were placed so people could trip over them. Seems odd reasoning, but if you like overhead light, you like overhead lighting. :)
