My husband and I are struggling to decide what kind of coffee table (or grouping of tables) to get for our great room in our hew house. This is the primary TV watching/lounge room on the first floor. Our main goal is for it to be comfortable/functional, but since we have a very open floor plan, it needs to be aesthetically pleasing as well. We just moved in, and my husband is working from home today, so the room is not fully set up, and there's a lot of random stuff in there that will eventually be removed (old orange pillows, items in TV cabinets, etc.)

The entire room is 14'x16'
Our couch is 9'x10'
The inner portion of the couch is 6'x6.5"

Things to consider about coffee table:
1. Although the space is large, we don't want to clutter the floor space with a huge coffee table, but we also want it to balance the couch.
2. We have two bad cats who love to tear up nice furniture, so upholstery and leather are out
3. It would be nice to have something that could be used also as a foot rest
4. We're having a baby soon and would like something that is somewhat kid friendly and not too heavy to move so that we can pull it out of the way if necessary to make room for play space from time to time.

Here are some things we plan to add to the space:

1. We may layer another smaller area rug over the existing one to add some texture/color
2. We will add throw pillows to couch in an accent color
3. We'd like to add decorative curtain panels in the corners of the room, which will hang from above the lower windows down to the floor
4. Eventually we'll also add either side tables or plants or both to the outer ends of the couch, though we're having a baby soon, so we may need to keep that space open for a swing, bouncer, etc.

I'd love suggestions on shape, size, type, recommendations for actual pieces, etc. We haven't set a budget, but would like to keep it "reasonable," which I know means different things to everyone. Feel free to suggest anything for ideas and I can always look for cheaper versions. I'm also open to any other style/design suggestions you might have for the room and it's currently a big "greige" canvas that needs some life.
