Lovely space and nice wall colors!

There are a few things you could do to open up the room. It feels a bit busy and colorless [if the floral arrangement were to be removed].

This pix is very helpful in understanding the layout and the reason that the window panels are white and not something that is more coordinated with the walls, fireplace and furniture. It would be better to change them to a linen shade to make the room more cohesive.

You could think about moving the sofa to the window wall. As it is now, it is like a wall separating the LR from the DR, stopping the flow. The recliner can stay where it is but pushed out so that it is at the corner of the sofa. The other chairs could be placed on either end of the TV. Now, this space is more open and traffic lanes are more defined.

To calm things down, clear away the mantle things and replace the grille with a painting that includes colors you would like to see. Bring back just a couple of objects for the mantle.

You need a larger rug. This will connect the seating to each other and define this area better. As it is set up now, the pieces are kind of floating around the floor - They need to be connected. Here is another way to introduce some color. It goes without saying that the artwork and rug should obviously be within the same palette.

Also, another way to think about this is to use a solid shag rug. This would add some texture to the space and simplify it with all of the different styles of chairs, sofa, fireplace and TV. There is so much going on in here, traditional to contemporary, maybe something that is as simple as it gets would be good - bringing patterns in through art and textiles.

A word about palette. . . If you prefer neutral colors, you can still bring in some color. Just be sure that the colors are muted and are found in the rug/art. For example, in stead of navy, find a color that is softer, dusty, wedgewood, etc. Or in stead of yellow, find a golden mustard, squash, etc.
