You could add some art/photos to the room to add color.

I can think of three things. The first two have to do with the dining area itself. You seem to have a small table with flowers on the far side of the drinks cabinet; I think you should have another on this side, just the same, creating a symmetrical arrangement there. Secondly, the tiles on the right look like a path and should lead the eye to something specific, so I suggest art on the far wall at the end of the "path" -- this is a good opportunity to find something colourful that picks up the yellow of the rug.

The third thing really depends on what the rest of the room looks like, but I think instead of placing that single chair next to the window on the left, you could place your couch there at right angles to the wall, with its back to the dining area, so that from this angle it would provide something interesting to look at in the foreground. You might, depending on the space and your preference, place a console table behind the couch with a few lovely things on it.

By the way, I don't mean the couch should be placed close to the window. I mean that it should be centred on the wooden area of the floor.

I would add texture and change the mirror to something larger. The chair could be changed to something larger.

You need add a bolder color - perhaps in new curtains? Black and white will make that yellow really pop. It's hard to tell the actual color or your walls, but they look more muted than your pretty yellow rug. That seems to fight your rug. Consider painting your walls to keep in a bolder palate. Add a tall glass vase filled with lemons and yellow pottery on the buffet. Stand the mirror on it's small end on the floor between your gray chair and sideboard. Add a pretty glass bar cart that would separate the two room visually. Put your liquor on that.

I'm sorry to hear you're emotionally tied to the yellow carpet because it is too small for your table. Note how the end chair appears to be falling off the edge of it. Rugs should be 4' wider and longer than the table top. Often when chairs have back legs that don't go straight down, they need even more scoot and sit space. And the rug should not run into walls or furniture on the walls, or in your case, the adjoining tile. Is there a larger rug available in this color? Can this one go somewhere else in your home? Art, instead of the mirror would be the way to add color.

What is your favorite color? Would it look good sprinkled throughout both spaces? Can you find art and a rug that work your color into the decor?

I would consider painting the ceiling white it will help to break up the space and will lighten up the entire room allowing the color on the walls to pop!

I think your rug should be a little bit larger and you can go with another one in the adjoining room. I would also go with one accent wall in yellow. Add bits of it in pillows as well. When you choose a painting, make sure it also has touches of yellow. A little goes a long way.

Try a rug with yellow and other colors as well.

A plain natural colored jute or sisal rug will brighten the space and allow you to add any color you want in art and accessories.

Yes, you could do a sisal rug and then a wallpaper with some yellow:

You could move the yellow rug over by the gray chair. Layer the white rug on top of it.
