Guest room

Need help making this room look welcoming. I'd like my guests to say "ahhhh" when they come in. The home is a rental so everything has to be done with accessories. I know I need a dust ruffle and probably a rug. I found two rugs that I love but are they to busy with the duvet cover?

    Hello Sheri,

Make sure you keep the colors neutral so the room will make a variety of guests feel at home. Decorate with mirrors to bright the space and stick to colorful yet practical furniture. And of course a comfy bed so your guests have a good night sleep!

    Hope this helps!

How's this for art above the chest?
Actually think I like this one even more!
They both look great! I hope they are at least 36"??
Is there an option to have the art in a print under glass with a white mat and black frame? I think that would look very nice. The smoothness of the glass and white mat and frame will complement your headboard and bedding. If it's a canvas print, that is good too!

Allamericanamy: yes, guests are ways welcome! Old friends and new, just don't bring pets. :)
LOVE the two art pieces, too. Size might be what helps you decide.
What about this chest for the other side of the bed? Will it fight with the black dresser?
I think I like the white one Darzy posted for that side of the bed better? It also comes in black.
I agree and ended up buying one very similar to it. I also got a small glass lamp and some green glass accessories. I still need to order the print (its canvas wrap) and buy a dust ruffle and rug. I think i'm also going to put a mirror above the dresser ( which is no longer caddie corner!). And then i'll be done? I hope to finish it up and send pictures this weekend. Stay tuned! And thanks for all your help!
PS i decided to buy this print.

LOVE that print and I think it will be perfect!

Quick thought....if you are going to use a mirror over the dresser.....would it make more sense on the other side of the bed then and put the night stand where the dresser is right now? Easier to get to and use the mirror instead of going all the way around the bed? Not sure if there is room or not.

Yeah i think i agree. There's plenty of room on both sides so i'll try it and see how it looks. Thanks
  • 11 years ago

    That art will be awesome!

Oh, that is nice. I'm surprised groveraxle didn't show you her yellow canary! What size is it. Will you hang it where the quests can see it while in bed? I am in love with your bed. And comforter, for that matter. I think I would go with either flokati rugs on both sides of the bed or an off-white shag for under the bed. Are you going with a tailored bed skirt or ruffled? If most of the quests are couples or men I think I would use tailored. At least both sexes will like it then I think.

I am going to hang the art on the wall opposite the bed. I definitely want a rug under the bed probably white and i'm thinking a tailored gray dust ruffle. What do you think?

I'd do a bright white tailored bed skirt, assuming the color in the flowers on the bed is white and not gray. Overstock has white bed skirts for very reasonable prices (I recently bought one).

I thought about white but didn't want it to fade into the rug which will be white....when i find one:)

I wouldn't want to confuse that great bedding with gray. I'd get white and not mess with success.

I think white will look nice with the headboard, too.

Whew! I was able to go in and change my order to white! Fingers crossed!

It looks nice. I'm wondering if the art might be hung just a bit high. How far above the ground is the center of the art?

Funny I was thinking the same thing but was waiting to see if anyone else thought so. Is there a standard height?
It's 4 ft 2 in from the floor

It IS a pretty room! The white bed skirt looks awesome with your beautiful bedding, pillows and head board. Love the dresser and mirror on that side of the bed, too. COZY!

I have a feeling hanging art above a low chest is going to be a challenge. Will you try something for me that may sound a bit odd? I have looked at your pic more than once and think it might be ok going a different direction.......will you turn it and hang it up and see what it looks like filling in that space then??? I may be waaaaay off, but worth a try?? You decide which side the dark part looks the best on. I am hoping this will be EASY to try since it is a canvas and maybe just rests on a nail???

No, that's not odd abbyjean - it's a great idea!!!!

Sheri1061, is the center of the pic or the bottom of the pic 50" from the floor? It looks higher than that but pictures can be deceiving.

I actually like it! The only weird thing is the artists name is printed in the lower right (now upper right) corner. What do you think? Does it matter? I also wanted to show off the super cute clock i found at Home Goods! I got the stand there too. It was white but I spray painted it black, i think it looks great!
    See the name?

LOVE the little round table!!! Maybe center on that wall it is on???

And thank you for trying the pic the other direction! I think it works like that!!!

Oh, I like it that direction too. I still might go about 2" lower, but that depends on the height of the center of the pic right now. I just might leave it hung vertically and not worry about the artist name. Love the clock and table - great job!

Yes, as abbyjean said, please move the little table to the left.

Want to try a few more things? If not, your room is still awesome, but wanted to throw this out there, too.........maybe try the towels on the lower shelf of the round night stand......still handy, but out of the way. Place the green pillow on the cabinet, almost like on a bench and it will also fill in a little wall space left between the cabinet and the art. Remove the throw from the bed and drape it across the chair in the corner.

    Ok, how's this?
Should I have hubby hang the mirror or just leave it resting on the dresser? We're in earthquake territory so hanging is safer:)

Perfect! Yes, hang the mirror with the bottom about 4" above the furniture, I think?

But if abbyjean has a different idea about the mirror, please do what she suggests because she is just nailing these finishing touches:). I sure wish she'd show us her house. I bet it's beautiful!

That beige throw bothers me. It's like thst song from Sesame Street--"One of these just doesn't belong." Nothing else in the room relates to it, and I would rather see a lime green or even a celery green throw.

It is just beautiful. Don't overthink things. Simple is best.

Thank you everyone! The mirror is hung and I love how everything looks. Although I agree about the throw (it's gold tho) it doesn't drive me crazy. So if I come across something better I'll replace it otherwise I'm happy! Thanks for all the great ideas!

Hey in the meantime I'm trying to help my daughter find a bed similar to this one. She saw it in Living Spaces Magazine but it was out of her budget. I've found similar headboards but no beds that have the footboard too. If you guys see anything, let me know, thanks!

    That is one beautiful bed.
