Need help in Living Room - Curtains

Just had the great room painted... working on everything else. First, not sure about the painting. Second, curtains..... have no idea where to hang the rod. They are meant to be an accent to the window (never plan to actually close them). I think I'm going to split the panels in half (to get rid of bulk). I have one more single window on the other wall as well. Not sure about the valance either, with or without. Maybe these are all wrong... I feel so clueless... :) Please ignore my curtain rod holder (lol) and blue chair. Also plan to hang artwork once we decide if it's staying or not.

you have the rod right! the curtains should just touch the floor. with out valance hang the rod to top of blinds with valance you can go up to where you have it. the painting has the perfect amount of colors in it. but seems kind of boring on its own (for lack of a better term), love your choices. go with your gut on the valance... your hubby looks just thrilled hahaha. something with a frame might be better over the mantel. and maybe some candle in staggered heights or candle wall sconces.

height is good, higher would be better but its hard to buy exactly the length you need. i wouldnt split those panels, i think the fullness is good now. i'm not a fan of valences these days. i think your's is emphasizing width instead of height.

i like the drapes pattern and color, and the valence pulls the blue which is really pretty.

Hi, :) Nice curtains .... I think I would just use the curtains and no valance. Maybe bring that valance color in some pillows? :) I like the colors in your room. I like the painting. I would pull the colors from there and add them around the room. Oh, also....I would raise the curtains just a bit.... it will also help when the air is blowing out of that vent. Trust me. Lol :) Though, they do look fine, I like mine high. :) Btw, I also have one of those curtain rod holders... and tile holder, picture holder, light holder... etc. LOL :D I know they love it. Ha-ha. Good luck, very nice space. :)

ohh if you wanted to get another inch or so in height with those drapes you could put them on clip rings. with or without the valence that would work.

yes the clip rings would get you a little extra length. Its very strange to me when curtains hang high and are off the floor floating around, and then this huge space to from the top of the window to the rod. i get the illusion of larger windows, but i assume the curtains will be open most of the time. you may add a shear panel to the center. to fill it in a bit.

I see a nice blue at left on mantel - but I wonder if that art is flat a bit cause of darker paint behind it - try it on the softer wall. Your valance is ok but seems a bit too gray? which makes it more traditional is it?

no matter what is in style, i prefer a 1-2 inch break in my drapes. not a full puddle, just a break. it does keep them from sailing in the baseboard heat a bit. but everyone comes to their own decision on correct-for-them length.

i do think the new style of putting rods to the ceiling is good. even the best magazines show this space above the window up to the rod, which took some getting used to. but the visual height is a wonderful thing.

I agree with taking a panel out to lessen the bulk. I am not sure what your design style is, but the curtains with the swag looks more formal. The curtains with out the balance looks casual. I see the paint as casual. Wood is always good to show. You have a valance on your blind that is wood. Keep your rod where it is in the first picture. I agree with some candle sticks to side of picture. I do also agree the picture could be turned. The picture would fit the space better. Also, hang the picture and center it.
