The best idea. First map out where your furniture will be. tape the floor with likely sizes so that the outlet are either very close to furniture or under the tables.

I dislike plugs in the floor it then always dictates where your furniture can go in some places they are actually not up to code. What I use for clients is cable lighting check it out at a good lighting store. You can run it on or dropped from the ceiling with different heads for different purposes like reading ect.

We often use floor outlets, but easiest to add after construction. Rugs and furniture often get shifted slightly once in the actual space. Get in and settled, then bring the electrician back to add the floor outlets, he can have a whip prepped in the crawlspace. Of course this doesn't work on a slab...

You better check the building code. If your slab has already been poured I don't think you will be allowed to do it.

This brings up a good question about what you can do when you have a slab foundation. I have the same problem and have not been able to find anything that covers the lamp cord that travels over carpet about four feet over to my wall outlet. Anyone have a solution? I currently have the dog's bed laying on top of the cord so no one will trip on it- not ideal!

Does anyone know if there is a floor outlet that can be recessed into the floor so the plugs don't stick up? I have a situation where the floor outlet is under a rug, and using the plug is wearing the carpet.

The ideal design for a floor receptacle is one that is recessed into the floor so that when the lamp cord is plugged in it is not sticking up where it can be kicked or damaged by shifting furniture. These are available but cost a lot more than the flush with the floor setup. Floor outlets in a slab must be planned from the beginning with the electrician installing pvc conduits and floor boxes before the concrete is poured.

Check out cable lighting with a good lighting designer no floor receptacles IMO they completly dictate where furniture goes and that is never good.
