I grew it last summer. I bought it thinking that it's "Clove/Tree" Basil, Ocimum gratissimum. The seed packet didn't have a Latin name and it was the only 'Clove Basil' I knew of. The packet does state that it is 2' only, so it couldn't be 'Tree Basil', confusion on my side.
It turned to be some kind of Thai Basil, very nice, but I could not taste any clove flavor in it. It was more licorice, quite pleasant. I made tea with it and used it for salads and sandwiches.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know of anyone selling seed of O. gratissimum? I knew this is also known as clove basil and have grown it many years back but dont remember where I got the seed. I wonder why it is so hard to find? I remember liking it and it smelling strongly of cloves and if I remember correctly it was a rather large bushy plant.

I grew clove basil from Nichols once. I thought it tasted mostly like Thai basil with a more pronounced anise like aftertaste. Nice plant.

But for O. gratissimum try Horizon Herbs. I've grown all their Tulsi varieties. Very nice. Link below.
