Wolf MDL repair success

I know many of the Wolf e series had the dreaded MDL circuitry error. I was hoping mine was immune but on an older post, I mentioned I had the issue.

My oven is 2.5+ years old. This puts it in the some parts are in warranty but not others.

I called Wolf and arranged to have Wolf Factory Service come to check it out.
When I called Wolf, I mentioned the GW blog on this issue. Maybe it helped!

I am happy to report that Wolf replaced both the MDL and the circuit board and covered everything at no charge to me! I would have needed to purchase the MDL plus labor and service call so this was an early holiday present!

I asked him about the porcelain chipping. He has seen a few ovens with the issue but not many in our area. He did say it is important to do the 500 degree burn in to clear out the oven and force the expansion of the porcelain from the beginning.

Keeping my fingers crossed on the porcelain.

I also asked about self-cleaning and he said it was fine to do the self clean.

I can get back to baking cookies and treats. I am experimenting with a stollen right now. It should go in the oven in a couple of hours.

I'm glad you had such good luck with the repair. I had that problem with my first unit, after another issue, they replaced my oven. At first I had some crazing issues with this one, but I haven't seen any more problems lately. I just ran the self-clean, and no chipping or crazing occurred. Since my new warranty runs out in the spring, I am wondering if I should just drop the issue or pursue it with Wolf. I love the oven and really don't want to go in another direction.

Glad to see someone looked at my post. It was feeling abandoned.
I would definitely stay on top of your crazing issue.

Wolf spent quite a bit of time checking out the oven so hopefully it will be fine.

I braved a self clean and it survived.

Good to hear that you had success. we had the same problem with chipping --though I didn't even use the self clean feature... they are coming out next week to replace the interior and test the oven. I do have to say I am really disappointed with this purchase. For the kind of $ these cost, these issues should be resolved in manufacturing.

Plumberry - sorry to hear about your oven.
They just don't make them like they used to anymore.
Let us know how you make out with your repair.
Of course, if everyone had trouble, none of the companies would be in business.

Hi A2. I'd did see your post when you first made it but was slammed with kid stuff. I'm glad you had a good Wolf experience and didn't have to hassle further.

My Wolf Ls (my 2nd set) are chipping again. I did the recommended burn-off on my first set and did Kaseki's recommended slower, gradual burn-off the 2nd time. Both ended up at a very high temperature. And both methods did not help with chipping. I am supposed to be getting these replaced with the new Ms in the spring when they come out.

Gharborwa--I was wondering how you were doing with your ovens. A2--in case you weren't aware, Gharborwa and I live close to each other. Several of us here with Wolf issues are PNW neighbors with the same distributor.
