Weekend quilting plans? Jan 30-Feb 1

Wow, can you believe January is nearly over already!? For me, in some ways it's flown by and in others it seemed to last forever. :)

I am officially a lay person again...yesterday was my last day working at the church. Saying goodbye to everyone was really hard! Even though I know it's the right move for me, and I will still be worshiping there, it was hard leaving the job I've had for nearly 18 years. BUT - I'm excited about my new job starting Monday!

Today I'm taking a "me" day. LOL I have a stack & whack top about 75% assembled, so that's what I'll be working on this weekend. Don't know if DH plans to watch the SB on Sunday, but if so I'll just hole up in the sewing room! :)

The weather here in central FL is beautiful so maybe we can find something to do to take advantage of it.

What's everyone else doing this weekend?

I'm taking a break from the quilting and going to a rag rug class today. (Not to worry, it won't be a permanent break.) This class is offered at the LQS and Friday is the only off day from looking after and chauffeuring grand-kids after school and I need a me break. So if I catch on in class I might be working on the rug project. It fits right in since it uses fabric strips. Since finishing the last quilt and matching pillowcases this month, I'm still searching for the next quilt project I would want to tackle. I also need to get with the LQS owner on when she does the long-arm classes so that I can try to schedule that around the kid's school schedules.

Donna, If you'll still be attending services there, it really isn't good-bye is it?

I finished the GI mystery quilt to the top stage and put it away. I'm in the process of clearing away everything to do with it and want to start on something that isn't so scrappy. Not sure what it will be but by the time I'm ready, I'll know. :-) I probably should look at my Bucket List of quilts and see what tickles my fancy. Also need to keep working on Mackenzie's quilt as the top is almost ready for the borders.

We'll be watching the Super Bowl because that's what we do. And I like to critique the commercials. :-)

I have two quilts I need to finish the hand binding. They are for our guild show in March, so I have to get cracking. No waiting until the last minute like I (always) have before!

Well I had a good day today ... S-I-L's, my niece and M-I-L treated me to lunch and girls' day of shopping to celebrate my birthday, and my Mom sent me money for my birthday that I used today to buy quilting supplies at Hancocks and Hobby Lobby where I got all items for 40% to 50% off ... that was really great! :-) My Mom also bought me an e-pattern on Craftsy for a Christmas Ball quilted ornament that DH printed out for me last night so would like to read over that pattern this weekend, would like to maybe work on some crazy quilt blocks on the sewing machine - I just want to play with some fabric, and maybe hand piece 1 or 2 granny square quilt blocks. My son frequently has friends come play on the weekends so not sure yet if I am going to have a houseful of kids this weekend.

    Best to you all,
    Sandra

Believe it or not, I actually am quilting in Mexico! I brought my QSize hand quilting along and spent a few hours this afternoon working on it. It's raining so no beach walking today! Moving further south to Cabo San Lucas tomorrow, so no more sewing for me. We need to find a place to watch the Super Bowl ... but can't really cheer for either team!

    Hugs to all,
    Sue

Happy birthday, Sandra! It sounds like you had a wonderful day. ðÂÂÂ

I found three dresses and two pairs of pants. The church gave me a gift card as a thank-you that I spent on my new wardrobe. LOL

I hope to finish quilting the one on the frame. It is for daughter's boss's mom. It will have to be turned in the frame, so may not get it done, but gonna try.

I have a giant frog to eat that I have been postponing since last fall. I have to create the historical binder for last year's Garden Walk. This year's walk process starts in Feb. and since I am chairing again, I have to have that done or I will go crazy.

Since we are in the process of a major snowstorm, (can't get to church or super bowl party later) it is a great time to shut myself up in the office, maybe with a cup of hot chocolate, and get organized while I watch the snow fall and DH snowblow. LOL

Happy Belated Birthday, Sandra! I'm glad you had such a fun day.

I have enough of the piano key border made for the spider web quilt and I still have scraps for more quilts.
Took out fabric for a baby quilt and might just get started on that this afternoon.
Snow is falling and DH is concerned that he will have to cancel a Senior's class tomorrow mainly because of parking lot not being cleared. He is the co-ordinator of a group that sponsors classes for retirees.
So,while he checks on the snowfall, I will sew.

A belated happy birthday to you, Sandra. Glad your day was fun. We went for a walk along the Kapalua Coastal Trail yesterday. Wow, what scenery! Today is a Super Bowl party at our friends condo. Everyone brings a "pupu," which is the unfortunate name for "appetizer" here in Hawaii. It had a totally different meaning for me as a child.

I'm on the search for a swag lamp to hang over the dining table where I quilt. It needs to have adequate light for sewing, but be able to dim for dining. Has anyone heard of a dimmer into which you can plug a lamp cord? I've got to check the internet. I hope to get some quilting in this evening.

Bev, I want to hear more about the giant frog you have to eat. Lois

LOL, Lois...Chinese restaurants in our area used to have "pupu platters" on their menus...I thought the same thing as you! :) Have fun at your party.

I started a batch of chili in the crock pot. My plan is for it to be dinner tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow night is my guild meeting and DH has a rehearsal, so something to heat and eat whenever we need it is a good idea.

Tomorrow's also my first day at the new job. I'm excited, but a little scared, too. It's been a long time since I started a new job; of course I'm wondering if there will be anyone else my age, etc.

Good luck tomorrow Donna. Scary but challenging! You will do fine!

I guess I'm just thick - so what's the deal with the frog?

Thank you Donna, Bev & Lois. My birthday was actually earlier this month, but Friday was the first day all of us girls could get together when there was good weather.... we have had excessive rain this month. Lois you can get dimmer cords that have a slide button on one end and a double sided plug on the other end and you plug your lamp cord plug in to the back side of the double sided dimmer cord plug and the dimmer cord plug is what actually plugs in to the wall.... you should be able to get them at Walmart or maybe Lowes? We have had ours for many years so can't remember exactly where we got them from.? Well we went visiting Saturday afternoon and this afternoon I helped my son finish sorting and purging out old toys, .... so only had a little time this afternoon to finish hand-piecing a Granny Square Quilt block.... fixing to start on another one in a little bit.

    Best to you all,
    Sandra

Lois you can get this dimmer cord online at Walmart.

    Best to you,

Sorry, I've been so busy chewing (5 hours), I'm just taking a break now. Eat your frog comes from Mark Twain.
âÂÂEat a live frog every morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.â -Mark Twain

The idea is to get that task (frog) you don't want to do (eat) out of the way first. My daughter had some cute frog shaped note paper she would use to put her frog task on each day.

I've been procrastinating about creating the historical binder (for good reason!), but have to get it done. It's my frog and I'm eating it.

I hope you have a great day at your new job, Donna.

I did a little frog eating today too.
It really is a good practice to develop, if I could only keep it up.

Very clever. I guess that's why I always exercise in the morning (or not at all). I was eating my frog without even knowing it.

Thanks for the info, Sandra. I found some at Home Depot too, and they're supposed to have them in stock here in Kahului. I'll look for them this week.

I'm not awake enough to do anything first thing in the morning, let alone eat a frog. UGH :-)
