Whew! I made it!

Well, if you want motivation to finish a project, make the label ahead of time! I made the label for this several weeks ago and it says "December 2014" on it, so I had to finish it! LOL

{{gwi:2136834}}

This is Celtic Solstice, Quiltville's 2013 mystery quilt. It is HUMONGOUS! I could have made it 2 rows shorter and it still would have been plenty big for our king size bed.

It's way too huge to quilt on my frame, but I had the idea to load it on the frame and pin baste it together. It worked!

We needed a bedspread for the hot months so this is just the top and backing - no filler at all. And I folded the backing to the front and machine stitched it down instead of making six miles of binding.

It took two days to baste, stitch and bind it. It was the last finished top that needed completing. Now I can start 2015 with a (mostly) clean slate!

Happy New Year!

Donna

PS - that's George, the head goober in our family...he was annoyed that I tossed him off the bed to try out the new bedspread. :)

I think you did a great job and the cat obviously agrees.

    WOW!! I'm impressed!

I really do like that pattern...I might be encouraged to try it out, but would have to buy fabric and control it. I've always like how those circles appear in the secondary pattern.

It looks great in your room!

I think it is great you finished it in one year! It is very pretty.

Great quilt, Donna! Glad you were able to finish it and have your label be right. I love the pattern and the colors are great.

Wonderful quilt! Love the controlled colors that you used. That's the thing with Bonnie Hunter, she mostly makes huge quilts! LOL!

I like the idea of making a summer quilt with no batting. That might go on my "to-do" list. Since you said you basted the top and back together, exactly how did you stitch it to hold it together?

Thank you all! It was great to get it finished. :)

Teresa, I stitched in the ditch between the lights and darks. If it had batting it would emphasize the circular pattern, but it's hardly noticeable since I used matching thread on top and bottom.

Yup, I saved the pattern, gonna have to make it.

That's a great quilt, Donna. You did a wonderful job making it scrappy, but you kept the patterns intact. Congratulations!

I really like that and the fact that you did it with no batting is an intriguing idea. I live in FL and in the Summer a very light-weight quilt for the couch would be a good idea, just enough to keep from getting a chill under the ceiling fan.

Now this Mystery I love! Your colors & fabrics are so nice and controlled, it looks very planned and organized. Congrats on getting it finished in 2014! It is sooooooo big!
Let us know how it washes without batting.
Keep up the creative work in 2015.

That is simply gorgeous. What an amazing quilt. And a huge accomplishment! I also love the circles that are formed.

Marsha, I had to buy a few FQs of orange and yellow, so there's not as much variety in them as in the greens & blues, but it's pretty scrappy! :)

It's kind of wrinkly after washing, but I shook it out well and smoothed it as I folded it, so hopefully it won't need ironing before I use it.

This is the BH mystery that convinced me I had to try one. I love this pattern AND the colors! Someday I may have to go back and make it. Yours is gorgeous!

Donna...that is a Beauty! It's the one BH mystery quilt that I really like, it's the secondary circle pattern that attracted me. Once I saw the reveal last year or should I say in 2013, I printed all the directions and its on the retirement to do list!
Well done....Looks great and Congratulations on the finish!
