I would go for a lighter color. I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I like being able to tell if the counter is clean or if someone left a spill.

What do you think of this color?

Thanks - I asked someone to photoshop{{gwi:807}} and here is what I got. Now I'm a little more unsure. My actual sample seems lighter (more grays) then the photoshopped image{{gwi:807}}, but still.

The places we went to are over an hour away and this was the only sample I took home... Sigh...

Maybe changing the wall color is an option?

I'm thinking the orange walls need to go, no matter the countertop color. It's just too much with the cabinets. I'd go with a lighter countertop and also consider doing a full backsplash instead of the short granite splash as pictured.

I would definitely change your paint color. It's not at all complimentary to your cabinets.

The gray/black granite is pretty, but I think that I would personally prefer a lighter color in your space and with your floors. I'd pick a granite that pulls colors from your floor, like a medium gray.

Change the wall color to a soft green and get light counter tops.

I appreciate the advice - and I think I agree with you guys - but I'm starting to stress out / get fustrated. I honestly don't know what to do from here. I could make another hour trip out and look for more samples but I don't even know what I would look for.

It seems like I need a new wall color AND stone color...I just want a combination that works. The cabinets can't change, I just refinished them to natural oak color. We kind of like the warm county feel - we have oak furniture in the living room that ties in.

Agree with the green wall color. You will absolutely be safe with BM Soft Fern if you don't want to go through the whole sampling thing.

You like country, rustic…I'd go with coffee-colored countertops to go with the green walls and the floor.

Call the granite lace and ask if they have a Verdi Butterfly, or Verdi Peacock that has a lot of gold. It looks so pretty with the oak or maple cabinets. The wall color is throwing the whole perception off, because it does not go with the floor.

Since you can't easily get to samples, you might try browsing Houzz for combinations with oak and your flooring. Most definitely the walls need to be done, and maybe even before you choose the granite. Be very careful with the colors in your floor and choosing the granite. So many mistakes are made by choosing one surface that is "warm" and the other surface "cool", even though the idea of cream/bone/tan/white/gray seemed so easy to visualize.

Our neighbor came over with paint samples and recommended changing the Orange to "revere pewter" from Benjamin Moore. We held up the sample and although it was a lot different we liked it.

We are going to head back out to the countertop place and find something lighter that maybe compliments the floor better. Something close to this. Here's hoping.

A BIG vote for the wall color to change to Revere Pewter -- to work much better with the colors in the floor tiles .....

... and yes .... a paler gray countertop -- and changing appliances to stainless steel will look wonderful too!

Thoughts on Ghibli? It has a slight hint of light red throughout we are unsure of but otherwise looks to be a contender

Level 3 Amarelo Ornamental granite. I think this will compliment the floor and new wall color nicely (I hope anyway)

Thanks everyone! We're hoping it turns out well too! They chipped us off a sample to bring home and I think it still looks good. Install is next Wednesday so I will follow up once it's all done.

Here is the photoshop edit - I'm not 100% in love with the mock up (a lot better then the black though) but my gut is telling me it will look better in person. When I hold up the real sample stone it looks a little less yellow IMO.

I'm hoping the walls will be a little less gray in actuality too - I'm getting a sample of paint today to try and compare it to the sample stone.

A little nervous but hopefully it works out. I hope the tan and gray go better together then pictured.

my suggestion is to wait for the counter to be installed before choosing paint. paint is an easy cheap fix and can easily be done after you have lived with the counter a bit.
keep in mind that the slab will look different in your kitchen as a counter than in the warehouse as a slab.

I like the second picture much better. I agree with a poster above, search Houzz or Pinterest to find good colors with oak. I have found a lot of good ideas that work with the oak in my house.
