How about a soft gray? It looks like the tiles have gray in them?That would work with current tile and cabinet. If you keep things somewhat neutral you can add a color in the curtain and accessories.

I would not do grey with oak and I see Browns in the tile but that might just be my eyes. I would go with a soft light brown/tan.

Oh ok. Sorry about the gray choice. I think if you like color find a few paint samples you like. Having tan/brown tiles allows you to NOT go tan/beige. I happen to love color so I've got a grey/ blue bath, my kids bath has the old traditional bisque tile with a very light turquoise and a light gray bathroom. Is it a master bath (shared with someone) or a main bath that guests and everyone uses? That might help you make a choice as well. Have fun with it!

Here is a different view than you might expect. I would pull a colour from the tiles and paint your vanity that colour and then add a soft tan glaze over it. The chrome switch cover is out of synch in this room: a simple plastic one will suffice. I always sew my own shower curtains and make them from ceiling to floor using polyester outdoor fabric if available or splicing two shower curtains together with bold inserts of horizontal stripes. Pull a wall colour from the shower curtains. If you are going to keep the handles, treat yourself to an extra handle and a tipout kit for the sink face and use that for your first aid supplies etc. Choose what you love not something you have to think about. I would definitely go with blue. Not too pale though.

Maybe a light blue paint with some white and blue and grey designed curtain? Also maybe a vase with some white flowers in them?

What a great blank palette. Lack of color. You can make changes as the mood hits you. Get away from the green (if that is what it is now). I have color problems w/ my PC. I would go with a lively aqua (very light, almost white). Add the bright color with a quality shower curtain as stated above. It is important & needs to be emphasized. Carry the color into the towels. Also quality. Add a piece of art (poster art) to hang above the towel rack & add three vertically stacked like colored pieces of art above the toilet. Have fun. Try something different.

paint the vanity white and the trim on the bottom of the mirror. and paint the walls a pale blue then pick out a shower curtains.

The space is very neutral so it's easy to work with. Consider starting with your shower curtain. Find a curtain you love, or make one if you're so inclined, from a great fabric. Then pick up a color from the fabric and paint that color. It's much easier to match paint to fabric than fabric to paint. You'd be surprised what a new shower curtain can do!

I definitely do not want to make my own shower curtian( I have 3 little children so no time for that) any specific blue paint colors that would work well?

i agree with golfer, bring home a lively shower curtain, see how it looks in your space, and choose a color from the curtain. there will be many fewer curtains to choose from than there are paint strips.

my sister got a great shower curtain at Target, I was amazed they had some real nice ones, so does Kohls. hard to tell if you have one but a curved curtain rod gives you a lot more elbow room.

The curtain rod has to be replaced, it's all rusty. I'll look into a curved one!!I'm def gonna check out target and kohls...

I think if you go beige you'll be bored to death, and if you go blue it'll be too close to your green to make you feel different. So I'm suggesting a completely different option - a purple gray. BM Sleepy Hollow is a nice choice. I'd also go with a plain white shower curtain, probably textured.

Tx Emmy, I actually don't live I in this house yet. We are moving into it in a few weeks. About BM Sleepyhollow that is the color I am doing asan accent wall in my daughters bedroom. But I like the idea of doing a colored wall and very simple shower curtain and towels. Any other ideas???

Go golfer 32. Good advice on fabric first, then paint. Like the idea of outdoor curtains for shower curtain with so many patterns and colors. We painted our oaky vanity and it was great. Not sure if Homegoods is national, but it was my first stop for anything bathroom. Wide choice, good price, not so much on quantity. I like the curved rod idea, but not sur it will fit the toilet. going to the ceiling May achieve the same. Gather the curtain, paint samples and look at everything together. Help the kids make an "art board" to help decide. It's easier when you put it in one group to see how it works together. Let us know.

If you don’t want to paint the vanity, I would also suggest a blue color like Benjamin Moore Spring Flowers or Celestia as suggestions. These shades of blue will work with the yellow/orange tones of the vanity. For a shower curtain, I recommend using draperies (Target, Sears, etc) as they are longer than shower curtains and will give the room height and you will have endless options to tie in the blue, tan, etc. Also, perhaps use a clear shower liner so that the light from the window still filters in.

draperies would be in the window dept. as opposed to bath dept. while true you can use drapes in the shower with a plastic liner (liner in, drape out of the tub) the fabric part still can end up getting a bit of a bath from time to time. i'd be cautious and choose something that looks like it would dry quickly. also something fairly thin or you wont get much light in.

the other thing to consider is liners and shower curtains are 72x72, drapery panels tend to be 50" wide x 64 or 86. hanging the rod high to take advantage of the drapery length will require finding the longer size of liner used for a stall shower which is also narrower than 72". so, doable but would require a bit more tail chasing.

Aha! Well, then I'd go with a very deep, dark blue, like Benjamin Moore's Deep Royal. Keep your curtain and accents white. Nice, clean, calm look.

I would not paint the vanity. I did that once when I had small children. Between them and the dampness of the bathroom it became an unsightly disaster quickly. Yes, I primed etc. My old vanity was ugly but yours is beautiful oak. Maybe just change out the hardware for the look you want. It can do wonders and is inexpensive. I like the idea of blue paint. But pale.

I just painted my basement ceiling Benjamin Moore "breath of fresh air" #806. It's such a beautiful blue. I'm painting the front door this color this summer.

Those curved shower curtain rods cause claustrophobia if they're too close to the toilet.

Target always has a great selection of shower curtains.

Disposableartshop.com has a lot of prints of ocean animals (and lots of other stuff) that would work for a bathroom and they are only $3.00.

I think I'll stick with shower curtain vs drapery. I'm afraid it won't dry well and will get damp and moldy! Any ideas of hardware for the vanity to give it a more updates look?

there are several on line hardware places. I have ordered almost all of it that way.. House of Antique Hardware has some amazing things online.

Answer to your question:

Look at the 96long drapery panels at fabric stores or drapery departments. There are polyester flat sheets that you could use -a twin would be luxury full. You will not have any sewing if you find a 60 wide drapery panel or use two 54W panels together. Polyester sheds the water and can be laundered. Easier and safer than vinyl.

Luxury hotels use polyester shower curtains without liners.

Look at alternative sources for inspiration and to keep housework chores down.

Your handles are still a great choice and work with the rest of the room.

But at the end of the day it is your vanity colour that is at odds with the rest of the room. You can dance around the elephants in the room: the switch cover and the vanity.

I am going to bow out of this discussion at this point because it appears this may be the point for you to hire a interior decorator rather than ask for many opinions. Have fun and don't stress: good design and decorating takes time.
