Definitely an upgrade!

To answer Q's:

- It was done before we moved in. Painters removed cabinet doors and drawer fronts and sprayed two coats Kelly-Moore Dura Poxy after the XIM primer. Cabinet bases were done in place before new bamboo floors were installed. After three years, you can see small nicks, otherwise looks great.

- We have something over the sink now - see photo - it's from CB2. We don't know why the cabinets and sink were installed off-center. Other Eichlers aren't this way. We've since replaced the DW and fridge and added an original Eichler kitchen extension table (in white Formica) recovered from a neighbor.

- Caesarstone counter top is planned for future. We only had a few weeks.

The transition from salmon to gray is a great one!

Turn the doors on your fridge to open on the opposite side. Usually easy to do. Eventually you might want to consider a counter depth refrigerator.

Paint the refrigerator too or replace it

You are so lucky to have an Eichler! Agree, white countertops, new refrigerator, and done.

Next, you need to improve the lighting ... and for the backsplash, I suggest tinted frosted mirror for a clean simple look.

Perhaps, instead of art over the sink, try a simple unframed mirror to fill the space from counter to top of wall, and cabinet to cabinet. I recently moved into an apartment with a small interior kitchen (no windows) and the wall behind the sink was filled with a mirror. Initially I thought I'd be constantly wiping it of spots and water splashes, but that was not necessary. And I also thought I'd be constantly viewing myself, which I definitely was not interested in doing. But that never happened. Somehow the mirror was not something to look 'at' or 'into', but boy, did it expand the sense of space in the kitchen.

I would do that myself if the need ever arose in a new living situation; I highly recommend it!

Personally I'd do a framed mirror which you could easily switch with paintings if you chose...I think a mirror would add some depth to that area. Re LIGHTING: Invest in LED's! Wonderful under cabinets. We also installed 2 Solar Tunnels when we remodeled, which let some sunlight in the ceiling. Enjoy your process! Looks great so far...

Hi Sophie - I just want to clarify that I (the home owner) researched and drove this myself. One or two pros were skeptical which is why I decided to share it. A painter did the actual painting work and he painted the rest of the house interior. We had not yet moved in or replaced the floor so he had space in which to work. It probably cured for two weeks before we moved in and it still looks great.

An unexpected benefit of painting over the pink Formica is that the pink has been reduced in the granite tile counter-top. More of the gray shows up. We don't like the granite, but it's expensive and wasteful to replace. Just another way this was a very inexpensive, Green upgrade.

I like the old version (the salmon pink) MUCH better. You have taken this room from quirky, cheerful and character-filled to generic and b-o-r-i-n-g!

I like the color but- it reminds me too much of those high school lockers. Definitely need something over the sink, and maybe consider changing the cabinet hardware.
