what is currently on the kitchen side of the wall that you want to remove?

here are the pictures on the kitchen side of the wall we want to take down. pardon the mess. this is the problem we want to address as well.

no worries on the mess, i understand if it wasnt messy you wouldnt have to worry about a redo! i just needed to see where the space would come from if the wall was removed. so, you have the wooden stand on the kitchen side, and a desk on the dining room side. you want to take the wall down and have an peninsula or island in between? cabinets above?

if you dont want seating at the island you can have cabinets on both sides, it would be good not to have uppers between the rooms if you dont have to.

Can you post a floor plan with measurements? Then we can suggest a new layout.

We were considering a peninsula for the space because we werent sure if an island will fit. One thing that is important for us is to move the sink. It is currently under the window but directly opposite the doorway into the kitchen. it has to move away from the doorway. here is the current layout.

What don't you like about the sink being across from doorway? Views of messy dishes?

Sorry just saw this but its bad fengshui to have the main door directly facing the kitchen sink.

Hire a Kitchen Designer. Be prepared to pay a hefty retainer if they have to deal with nonsensical issues.

Yes we are working with kitchen designer and we have decided to add a peninsula where the wall is now next to the stove and moving the stove to where the fridge is and moving the fridge to the pantry side. The sink is moving to where the sink is. We are removing the tiles on the floor and replacing with wood floors to match the rest of the dining room. One designer suggested that we create a small opening on the wall where the stove is currently to open into the family room behind it so the sink will not face a wall. Is that a good idea? Any suggestions will be helpful.

do not put hardwood in your kitchen. water, dropped dishes and other kitchen related disasters week destroy the hardwood. tile kitchen. hardwood dining.

Sorry, I forgot to post my idea for you! Here it is. Just a basic sketch. It creates a very informal dining space with the table in the middle. It's obviously not along the same lines as you were describing, but it's another idea for you to consider.

As fengshui has been around for perhaps 5000 years, it precedes any sort of kitchen design in any dwelling on the planet.
Therefore, I don't think you have to worry about the sink placement.
You have enough room for an island, but why do you want one? That is, what is the function you are looking for in an island?

We decided not to do an island bec we have no need for it we are opening it up into our dining ng room which we actually enjoy using everyday.
