Everything's the same tone--walls, carpet, sectional, which may be why you're unhappy with the room. Definitely, a much lighter wall color would help. I like your furniture and wouldn't paint any of it silver. It's great that you selected open shelves, coffee table, and occasional table with open legs to balance the sectional. Instead, find some nice mercury glass accessories to place around the room. You could lighten the sectional with several large pillows and a throw in the same blues from your painting. I like the look of your windows, but an easy fix would be long white linen drapes with a bit of blue and taupe. Or add a couple tall standing mirrors behind your lamps flanking your TV to pick up light from the window as well as bounce light into the room.

I would go way lighter with the wall color and add some mirrors to bounce the light that you do have. Is adding more lighting an option?

Patterned drapes would also add some personality.

If you are looking for a affordable quick fix, how about some lighter throw pillows?

Whites, light grays...

I think that would soften up the area along with some lighter drapery.

Thanks so much for your ideas. Hardwood flooring is absolutely on my to do list but I just found out that I'm expecting so that is on the back burner for now. Just wanted some easy fixes. So I definitely think I'll lighten up the room by painting revere pewter. And add some light curtains. Thanks again for your suggestions. What do you think I should do over the tv?

Can you pull the couch away from the wall and center it with the TV cabinet by pulling that too? I think it would brighten the space. Your windows are lovely. I would also bring the flower picture down a few inches to fill that wall space between the cabinets.

The other possibilty is to change your TV end of the room with a long, low wall unit where the TV is less dominant.

If you want to keep it cheap without a lot of work choose an accent color and work it in with pillows and some drapes. Even if it's a cream. Right now the color appears to dark and heavy. I would remove some of the items you have displayed on the shelving unit on right as well. It appears to heavy and draws the eye to that one unit. Add your new accent color to the frames on the mirrors as well with some paint and a few pieces of same color to the shelving units but remember not too many. Less is more kind of thing.
