Just a thought....the windows will be behind everyone when sitting at the island. We designed our island so that at least 2 people could see the view.

I'm no expert, but if one square= 1 ft in the drawing, counter o/h will be about 10" deep only.

I'd instead consider just the beverage center and another 24" cab for less used items under the o/h and make the o/h 15" deep x 24" wide for each seat.

If the island is a little off center towards the wider doorway, I think you can have a shallow tall cab on the other wall (maybe recessed into the wall) to make up for any storage you loose on the island.

In the kitchen I'd consider moving the DW to the other side of the sink, so one can prep b/w the sink and the range, while another can load/unload the DW.

Do you absolutely need the storage that this island offers you? By using it mostly for seating, you aren't getting a ton of storage from it. I see that you said you plan to use it mainly for seating. Many people are more comfortable sitting at a table than at an island (older people, young children, shorter people...). I usually think of islands as being most useful as work surfaces, but your island is far enough removed from the kitchen work zones that I don't see it being used as a work surface.

In your situation, I'd probably be looking to do either a banquette for seating in the window, or a standard table and chairs, and look for a different spot for the beverage center. An island removed from the rest of the kitchen like this just doesn't make sense to me.

I think you'll also get more feedback if you can increase the size of your images. They are showing up very small and difficult to read.

I think a table in that pretty windowed area would be more comfortable. But, this kitchen would drive me nuts. There is over 8 feet between the refrigerator and water source and where you would be prepping. Have you considered a thin, movable, prep island in the center? Or, perhaps a more L shape functional part of the kitchen, with lots of cabinetry on the side that currently has the frig and then a center island?

A prep sink on the run between the fridge and the stovetop would make the prep area (presumably that run) more functional.

I agree that a table in that windowed area might be more functional. Alternatively, a "banquette" type built in table might be lovely if your windows are high enough to build seating below them. If you could do a banquette type table there, there might be some way to make a working/serving island poke out in a sort of key-hole type shape.

You're jumping through unneeded hoops to be able to say you have an island in your kitchen. Not only isn't that a functional kitchen island, but it isn't even good seating. It fulfils neither mission. Put a table there. It's more comfortable, less contrived, and much cheaper.

I think you might do better with a narrow island in the kitchen (if there's room) and a nice table by the Windows
