Dear Cynthia, thank you for taking time to answer my question and thanks for the opinion which I really respect. I agree with you marble is nice and this one is an expensive one, it is all the way from India. And the blocks are big ones too, they are like hotel ones. Unfortunately, I'm a little bit bored with seeing the marble for almost 10 years and I need a change. I'm planning to change from classic to a mix of tropical rustic style. Plus I like wood so much, I want to walk bare foot, that I can't do on marble, it is so cold.

Hi again Hasna, thanks for your reply. I am concerned about this because I don't know if you know what a major project this could turn out to be. See the wonderful iron doors in the picture? Those are made to fit exactly into that opening. If you add wood flooring on top, those doors aren't going to fit. If you want to end up at the same floor level, you're going to have to demolish the marble floors entirely, and then create a new level surface and install hardwood on it, and make it come up to the exact same height.

Of course it's up to you how much you want to spend, how much mess you are prepared to go through, and perhaps not use your iron doors any more. I was hoping to get you to reconsider and to start loving your marble floors again! You didn't like the carpet itdea? They would really warm up the space and add so much luxury.

Are you planning on living in this home for a long time? That is another consideration. If you are planning to move in a few years, then you could look forward to the next house where you will have hardwood floors or underfloor heating under a surface like marble. It's too bad that this house didn't have underfloor heating as this would have been an ideal solution. Unfortuntely it can't be installed after the floor's in place.

Hey Hasna,

You could install a floating floor over a marble floor if it is secure and flat.
If the marble is installed over concrete a 6 mil poly moisture barrier is recommended in addition to the supporting underlayment cushion. Hope this helps!

Hi Cynthia, thanks for your advice, I had carpets as you said everywhere, they were nice! It's just when sometimes an idea clicks in your mind and you decide to do it! That's exactly what happened to me; I just decided that I had enough with seeing the marble every day, also the iron; the doors, the windows and the stairs rail. Plus I have always loved the American comfy style as well as the tropical style. I Also love Thailand and I like my house to be little bit warm cause I feel the marble and iron are really cold both physically and vision wise. Regarding the main iron door, I am changing it already with wood.

Hasna, can I ask why you're not considering just moving and finding another house that better suits your new style? Or maybe you enjoy the process of renovation! I hope you have some very good trades who will do this work to a high standard for you. Best of luck!

Dear Cynthia, as I have promised, here are 2 pictures of the wood flooring with the door changed into wood also. Didn't finish yet and as you have said it is a hell lots of work. We did put a floating floor before fixing the wood flooring.
Please let me know about your opinion.

What a very grand home, Hasna. The wood looks beautiful. A whole new look for you. Could you give us a look at the front of the house? I'd like to have a little peek and see the whole thing :)

Just my opinion. I understand the desire for a new look but I think it is a shame to have covered the marble and damaged it with nails for what I assume is manufactured wood. I think the front foyer is gorgeous. And while I think the doors are quite unique, the new ones are a more modern look.
