How did you find ordering the new kitchen system?

The ordering was fine. There was a lot of waiting, both for ordering help, during ordering, and for them to pick the items. We got there at 11:30am and didn't leave until after 10pm. We ate lunch and did very minimal other shopping in that time as well. However, I'm led to understand that this can be par for the course with IKEA, especially on a Saturday.

We will need to go back for a few more items that were not in stock, and to exchange a few things. I can tell you that I will definitely *not* be going on a weekend for that trip, if at all possible.

Thank you so much for the information about the sale! I hope it is nationwide; we are meeting with an IKEA kitchen designer next week. We've spent the past year refining and re-refining just what we hope to achieve, so anticipating ordering cabinets soon after the designer's input and measurements.

Hi, can you tell any difference between Grimslov and Adel?

I did ask the sales associate if they were the same (Adel/Grimslov, Bodbyn/Lidingo, etc.) and he said yes. I personally can't see any difference either, but we didn't look at Adel very closely prior to the Sektion roll-out. We were going to go with Ramsjo white, which would have been Laxarby white - but they didn't provide that in Sektion. I can tell you that Bodbyn does seem identical to Lidingo.

Woo im so excited! Moving into a new place at the end of the month and i wanna renovate the kitchen so I'm glad they are still on schedule with the sale!

I noticed on another thread you mentioned you were going to do a 9" pull-out broom closet as part of your Ikea kitchen -- I am trying to figure out how to do the same thing. Did Ikea help you figure out what to buy (I guess you need to order a 9" filler panel?) to do this?

Hi eastvill - I have bought a cover panel (narrowest is 15") that we will need to cut down. That may be the only thing I end up buying. The space we have is 27"Dx9"W, and is between the oven cabinet (which we DIYed) and the wall. With 2" of filler, it appears that my pull out will be approximately 7" wide. So, we will probably need to build the box and buy the extra-deep hardware ourselves. I'll post pictures once we have something finished.

Tracie - thanks. I'm looking at a similar sized pull-out (or maybe even an inch or two smaller. At the IKEA store they told me you can ask for a filler panel in whatever size you want...not true?

I'm meeting w the IKEA kitchen planner on Monday and not sure they will be willing to include this in the final "plan" since it's not straight IKEA.

I'm going to show the pics in your link to my contractor and hopefully he will be able to figure out how to get this done. Keep us posted on how it goes for you.

I'm not sure on the filler - perhaps I misunderstood the sales associate? If so I will have some exchanging to do.

The kitchen planner should be able to order you anything you want as long as it is composed of items they carry. For example, I noticed that they no longer offered a double oven cabinet in the planner or on the floor, but they still sell the Nutid double oven. My sales associate said IKEA will still sell you a double oven cabinet, they just need to custom input the pieces into the order.

If we can, we will still order the box for the pullout from IKEA. We would order a 15" tall box, cut down the top and bottom, and redrill any necessary holes to make it the needed 7" wide. I just hate finish work so I'd rather do this than build our own box :/

Have you heard anything else about the Spring Kitchen Sale? It is the 27th and I haven't seen or heard a peep.

I had the same question jsteinberg016. Been waiting for a month for today to come so I can place my kitchen order but there is not mention on the website. Can anyone confirm or deny that the kitchen sale start today?

I placed my order at the beginning of this week. However, when I inquired about a possible upcoming sale and refund, I was told that the refund would be in the form of store credit (which works fine for me since I haven't yet ordered my countertops through IKEA). Does anyone know if this is a local policy or corporate, all-store policy? Also, thank you so much, tracie_erin, for the link. I never would have thought to look there.

I placed an order in the Brooklyn store earlier this week and they told me that I could come back after the 27th and I would get 20% put back on my credit card.

Patricia, I have heard in the past that IKEA gave out gift cards instead of $ off. Perhaps it's not that that is an old policy, but the past and current policy of certain stores? I'd be interested in hearing which store is yours.

Does anybody know if ikea still has an island depth butcherblock? The only one I see online is the karlby, which isn't true butcherblock. IF not, does anybody know if you can still get the numera butcherblock?

kpohl, the new butcherblock is called HAMMARP and from the website (and from ordering), it does not come in island depth. We used it for our island, and had to join two pieces. We used biscuits, glue, and the kreg jig.

Tracie, thanks for responding! how does the joined counter look? Our contractor wasn't sure he could make a seamless join since the butcherblock is pretreated and not raw wood. Good to know that it's still an option!

Hm, it didn't look pretreated to me. We also sanded and finished (mineral oil) ourselves, of course. Here it is. It's not perfect - my husband lacked the proper tools - but we are very happy with it.

Just fyi, the hardest part of this was getting a straight cut. My husband had to DIY a longer saw guide because we didn't want to have to buy one for just this project. Your contractor should have one, though.

Does anyone know if they have a summer sale? An associate told me they do but I am still worried about missing this sale. We are building a home and I don't want to rent a storage shed for the kitchen.

We bought during the summer sale last year (2014), which began in late June IIRC.

I looked back in my emails and see there were kitchen sales at Ikea in July/August as well as October/November in 2014.

Thanks so much for the responses. Calms me down. We haven't broken ground yet so the summer sale will just have to work for the build.

Tama, I don't want to worry you but it's my recollection that the summer sale was a one-time thing to help clear out existing Akurum stock. I do know that they only had the spring and fall sales in previous years. But, hopefully I am wrong and it's something new they will keep doing year to year.

I was at Ikea last week to see if we could buy at the 20% deal for delivery in the fall but IKEA said that the delivery would have to be within 30 days of us meeting a kitchen designer which puts us in July, too soon for our remodel. The employee said there will likely be another sale in the fall, but she wasn't certain.

Does anyone know when the fall sale is?

I was told by an IKEA subcontractor (one of their kitchen design/install companies) that due to low stock the fall sale has been cancelled.

Not surprising. I am hearing endless reports of people having trouble getting all the stock they need. So thankful I got my KD/installer to buy early - or I very well could have had to delay. Really sorry for those people who are having supply issues.
