Siding & color ideas for a 70's "colonial"?

I purchased this foreclosure about 18 months ago and I'm almost positive nothing has been done since it was built in 1971. The cedar shake siding (especially 2nd floor) & windows need to be replaced. I'm planning for new vinyl siding (probably shake style) on the top & bottom of the house so it will be one color plus the stone. The stone is nice but the hue seem to be limiting my options for exterior colors. I like the craftsman style columns for the front porch but not sure how to make it work.
I would really appreciate any ideas to give this house a great makeover!
