Another feature found

So, I found another feature that I thought you a) might miss, b)not understand, or c)might find cool...

When you are on the main list of "Discussions", look just above the top message...you'll see a box with 'latest activity' and to the right of that 3 little grid boxes.

Try changing these. The one with 3 rectangles gives a listing of posts. If you select the 2 rectangles it'll display the post title with a picture if one is included in the main post as well as the last comment. If you select the 1 rectangle, I think it shows the last two comments.

I liked the 2-rectangle option...I like seeing the last comment (so I remember if it was me).

If anyone figures out another neat trick, I'd love to have you share. I think we'll all learn faster if we can share with each other.

Jen

Okay, just figured something else out.

after you create a post, if you open it (read it), you should be able to see an 'edit' button underneath it... There's a Facebook icon, Twitter icon, etc. a comment box, bookmark, 'like' and 'edit'

This and the other comment were both helpful. Still can't find my password, but at least they're letting me use my name!

Thank you, Jen! I like both the 2 squares and 1 square options better than the 3 square one. :)

Is there a way to add an auto signature?

Just another tidbit....if using the second square option, showing last comment made on the thread, just tap or click on the comment itself and that will take you to the bottom of the thread at that comment. Saves scrolling.

Welcome to all GW. This change has had all of the Houzzers a little frantic as well. Seems the powers that be are trying to address our concerns. Sure wish they had set up a tutorial beforehand so we didn't have to search and go to so many sites for answers. (Sigh) It is what it is.

    Here's to a happy union!

Thanks for that tidbit! That's really helpful!

Thanks Peg! I know I am feeling a bit like a stepchild, but I am hoping the transition is a positive experience for all of us.

I am a long-time member of Houzz and of the garden web..with different usernames.

I was so surprised to click on my quilting forum bookmark this morning and seeing Houzz open up...thought I had clicked the wrong bookmark so tried it again...Ha! Ha!...a bit disoriented but no real problems. Thanks for the tips/suggestions that help ease the transition.

Quiltnhen - If you click on 'Your Houzz' in the top right corner and then 'Edit Profile', you'll then see your 'Account Settings' on the left side of the page and a link to change your password.

Donna - Unfortunately, a sig option isn't available.

There really are some great new 'toys'. Uploading photos is super easy and you can upload four at a time. Also, I know that I've seen a lot of members asking about how to shut off notifications. I know that some people had difficulties getting post notifications on GW and now, suddenly, you might be getting notifications. If you go into your profile settings and click on 'Advanced Settings' you'll be able to modify your privacy and notification settings.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you, Jennifer and others. I actually logged in here and found those 3 choices. Like #2 bar choice also. Lots to learn, tho.

Thank you bunches Jen and Peg that was helpful. I am starting to get the hang of how you navigate this site, I am starting to like it; I like having the additional features that are available on houzz.

    Best to you all,

    Sandra

Thanks. My problems started with two email addresses and an old Houzz account I'd forgotten. I think it works now.

Thanks Jennifer. That is good to know.

I like that feature, Jen. Don't know if they have fixed my name or not - no response to my email. We'll see when I post! Of course, being out of the country with lousy internet doesn't help either, but that's another story ... Nope, the name isn't fixed!

Hi Sue -- I don't see an email from you, so if you'd like to contact me directly and explain what the issue is, I'll be happy to resolve it. tamara.amey@houzz.com

    Good tips! Thanks everyone!

Tamara! Nice to see you here and glad you are still taking care of us, after all these years.

Sue! Really enjoyed your travel posts on your blog!

Wondering if there is a way I can 'personalize' what I see. Their green topic line is not bright at all to me and I'm having difficulty seeing and reading. Sorry to have this in bold, but it doesn't strain my eyes as bad.

    Sharon,

I am not a computer person at all, and have no experience with this, there have been discussions on other GW Forums about how to change the overall look. If you Google Garden web Houzz background colors (and words similar) you will find that GW members are posting & writing codes & walking us thru changing the themes (like the beautiful Morning Glory background we use to have) and add ons depending on your Browser that changes the Fonts, colors and darkness. You will be able to personalize everything you do on the computer, not just GW.

I know some of these discussions are in Home Decoration, Seeds and Computer Help. Let me know if this helps you. Here is a link to one discussion:

Thanks, Marsha. I'm not a computer person either so had trouble following everything they said, but I'll keep at it and maybe something will click. Thanks again.
