Can you float the couch in front of the tv/fireplace? It looks strange with having all the furniture with their backs pressed against the walls in fear.

We really need more photos showing all sides of the space. From the little I can see, I would put the TV on the wall to the left of the fireplace, float a sofa facing the fireplace with one or two chairs at the end of the sofa.

If I move tv to the wall there will be a empty space above fireplace. The builder did a poor job with this layout hr put all the outlets for tv on that spot. :(

The TV outlets can be moved. It's not that big a deal, especially if it makes the room function better. And empty spaces over fireplaces are meant to be filled with art.

If you'll post more photos of the space from all angles, we can help you with the arrangement. And good for you for getting the arrangement nailed down before buying your furniture. It never works out well the other way around. ;-)

now where would my couch go? I do like the way that looks

and another thing where you put the tv is the entry way to the house

we need to see in blue tape where the new island is going to rest. Also i hate to say this but the dining light is floating much to height. It is not the entry way but your living room right, so we have to treat it as such. I would angle the couch to the fire place and leave the tv. but this depends on the rest of the space. it may be better on the wall as above.

Why don't you post more photos of all the corners of that space ?

oh my ok, I would like you to tape off or show how far the bar stools will sit into the room. Have you thought to take the hallway wall down as well?

is this the only living room? to be honest i would probably opt for two comfy chairs and the tv centered on that wall. or a love seat and one chair to the left. if you can find the smallest L shape with chaise on left side that might work.

Yes this is the only living room and will not be knocking wall cause that leads to a room
  • 11 years ago

I think I understand now. I would like to see the TV placed on a low media center, such as groveraxle displayed. If you plan to buy new seating pieces, I do think you will be better served with either a regular sized sofa or love seat & two accent chairs. No walls need to be knocked down.

Before purchasing new pieces, take measurements of the ones you are considering & lay out blue painters tape on the floor 1st to see if they will fit. Figure into your plan an area rug to pull all together. Check Ikea for very reasonable media centers & to get ideas from their vignettes. They have such great ideas. Have fun with it!!!

Over the dining table light fixture such hang about 36 " above the table.

I would move the sofa as far back as possible. Use the table under the window as a sofa table behind the sofa. I know I am in the minority, but I like the TV over the fireplace. I would add a busy print area rug, two small side chairs and a small scale coffee table and end tables. Pillows, throws and artwork to coordinate with area rug.
