Anything in a blue-gray will turn the oak orange, so not loving the two swatches at left. HOWEVER, I am looking at a photo on a monitor, both of which distort color. What is the flooring and backsplash going to be?

I don't have a backsplash picked out yet, but need to do that as well.

I think the taupe would work well. As for the other swatches you laid on the floor - you should always look at paints vertically to get the most accurate reading on the color. Are you able to tape the swatches to the cabinet front near the floor and take another photo for me to look at?

Also, you might want to figure out your backsplash and countertops first, as it is always easiest to match paint color to other more permanent items, than painting and then feeling like you have to pick permanent items to match the paint color you already put up.

I'm thinking a light colored glass. Maybe travertine like porcelain. Any suggestions? I have not idea what I'm doing. :)

Definitely green! I had oak cupboards like yours before I painted them and I painted my kitchen BM Mossy Oak, which is still the color of most of my house. It made my oak cupboards look sooo good!

If you don't want to go green, terra cotta looks beautiful with oak to! Go green!

Here's the travertine tile I picked out for the backsplash. I was going to lay it on the diagonal, but think it's way too porous and maybe too light. I'd love to have a cool backsplash with glass tile, maybe a little shimmer. Just concerned about the loud factor, and resale. I'll be painting the window trim above the sink white.

H, I like the greens too but I also like the last picture, third one in from left. A darker taupe but I can't really tell from picture. I like your backsplash choice.

My goodness I just changed the exact kitchen! I like the taupe; I did a Benjamin Moore colour called Revere Pewter & it looks amazing. As well, went w/an Arabesque glass tile in Andalusian grey- works well w/warm & cool colours.

Pick your back splash first as it is easier to find a paint that will go than to try and match a paint to a back splash. If you like the look of the glass tiles, have you ever thought of painting your back splash the same as your walls and then having glass cut to fit you backs plash and mounted with ornate screws so you can remove it if you repaint the walls?

Have you consider painting the cabinet? Because of the arched doors and orange color they do look a bit outdated. but they look solid and in good shape.

There is nothing I would love more than to do something with those ugly cabinets. I WILL be painting them someday, but my husband is having a fit about it.

it would be less expensive to paint them now just take them out, have them painted professionally and back in. When you are doing that kind of job a bit more craziness is not a big deal, rather than along the way do it in a few years. more craziness.
