I would say if you don't really care for them and don't have an immediate use for them to pass...unless of course they might be the only "heirloom" you will have from your grandmother and seeing them in your home will always bring back fond memories of her. Perhaps there are other items of hers you like more that will do the same.

I sure would; they are not too fussy and could work well in a more contemporary or modern setting for a bit of vintage. They are likely much better quality than you can find today, but I'm assuming she had them for a while?

I would say, no, pass on them. Get a nice photo of your grandmother and remember her that way. You will spend an inordinate amount of time trying to fit them into your house. Unless you have some specific memory of those lamps and your grandmother, let them go.

I would take them to avoid regrets. if you find you don't like them or can't make them work then pass them on.

I can see them on a buffet or a side table. They don't have to be used together in the same room either. Can you use them as singles in a couple of different areas?

I think they are beautiful and agree that they could go with most styles. I am not sure unless shipping will be crazy money (they are heavy I am sure) but I would say they are lovely.

Unless someone else likes them as is, I would still consider them - easy to convert them to the contemporary style you prefer with some spray paint. My trusty black spray can has converted brassy / gold items to match my simpler style - the intricate details become more subtle, like just texture when they lose their metallic shine.

Thanks! They are not sentimental to me, and are not the only heirloom (will get her wedding set)...but they are supposedly good quality. I would hate to get rid of them, then need to purchase something at Target or Ikea to fill a space on a budget, KWIM?

OTOH, I see my mom's house which is a mishmash of "my great aunt's this" and "my second cousin's that" and none of it works and it's all old and shabby. I don't want to get to that point either.

I say take them. I regret a few things I did not keep when I sold my parents home and furnishings.

They are not too ornate, and I think go well with a more contemporary style. Oh, and I would not paint them. Real brass is making a comeback.

I have 2 brass table lamps in a similar style that belonged to my grandfather & I put vintage vase-shaped milk glass shades in them so they're like torchieres now - I love the look & have them on either side of my bed. Using a more modern style glass shade in a color could look quite contemporary. The top might be shortened by removing the metal tube just below the socket...
