Nice space. I would get a small bistro table and put it under the window by the kitchen. A round table would be easiest to walk around; a square or rectangular table would divide the space a little bit and act like an island. Then I have 2 ideas:

• put a couch or loveseat (whichever fits) facing the other large window, separating the living space from the bed area. Put a dresser behind the couch, accessible from the bedroom. TV on the wall opposite the kitchen.
• or a dresser separating the spaces, with a TV on the dresser and a couch on the wall.

Start with your big pieces, then add smaller furniture if it fits. One person does not need much. In fact, one person might not even need a kitchen table.

Add a couple of hooks for coats by the door.

I like your ideas, especially putting a dresser behind the couch. So, I found my little furniture pieces and came up with this arrangement.

• Kitchen Area: Table will function for dining or a work surface (with lamp). I have an old but decent teak table with pull-out ends that might fit well here. I will need to position it just right to allow easy access to the fridge.
• Living/Sitting Area: Sofa (7'), one chair (may be too big) and an ottoman (would a round one to move around be better?) Added a 4 x 6 area rug to soften up the hard/tile floor. TV is great where you suggested--there are electrical outlets and other connections. Also might find some book cases/shelving for either side of the TV.
• Sleeping Area: Chest of drawers behind the sofa and a twin bed (maybe an extra-long?), with a small bedside table and lamp. Possibly a storage ottoman at the bottom of the bed.
• Added a couple of shapes as possible spots for extra storage/shelving--just inside the door toward the kitchen and at the end of the closet/bathroom hallway.

Pieces under the floor plan were other shapes I considered. Does all this look do-able? Too crowded? As you say, start with big pieces and go from there. The challenge here (in Hawaii) is finding pieces to fit that are in stock. No Ikea!
