Assume you plan for TV on the left. I'd simply paint and install a mantel. Get back to it later when budget allows a larger investment.

I'd say you have quite a few options dependant on wether or not this is a gas or wood burning fireplace.

It is a gas fireplace and we have gas logs. I hope to add fireplace glass soon.

I'd use black stone/tile/marble on the brick facing, and find some way to get a long black mantel above the fireplace and extending to the left (if you'd really still like that look). Even a shallow facing (matte black tile would be cool!) with nothing else would be pretty spiff and skip the raised hearth...

If possible consider moving the fireplace back to center on the wall. This could make the entire wall a showcase at the end of the room.
Other than that I would say using slate around it and possible having two mantles that stagger each other at different heights to try and balance everything out.

I would try to tie the look of the wall together. By running the mantle and a floating hearth towards the center.The mantle should act like a gallery.Try adding 5 mini pots equally spaced on the wall.What do you think about painting the brick a bright but muted color?The art would become the focal point and draw the eye to the far end of the room.
