Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter is a nice neutral that is neither gray or beige and goes with Browns and grays!

It would help you so much if you could find a piece of art for over the sofa that is a landscape orientation, that has your neutrals in it along with small touches of earthy colors. Like, brick, terracotta, moss, camel, etc. You don't need to blast color into this room, but you are probably missing some color since you posted here. Bring in some blue from your kitchen in your art piece. These examples contain a blue + other colors you can pull out for accessories.

Some of these blues are on the aqua side, others on the cobalt side of blue. If you have not painted your kitchen yet, get the art before you do that so yo will know what shade of blue would work best.

Soft gray walls with blue undertones would be very nice here with either colored artwork or the black and white print.

If you are set on all neutrals, you could consider a black/white or sepia print in dark frames over the sofa. In rooms with this palette, contrast is important - it helps the space from becoming flat. Look for an image with strong contrast - black/brown to almost white/cream. Texture is also important in this scenario - shag pillows, textured drapery panels. Green plants are good choices for adding some natural color.

Adding drapery panels would soften the space. Rethinking the composition of the smaller art pieces on the window wall might be a good idea, if you choose to hang panels on the window.

Here are a couple more shots of the other walls. We are getting a different floor lamp and long curtains. Any curtain ideas along with the wall color? I'd like to paint the walls and the trim a different colors in this room possibly?! I just don't want colors to clash with the possibly Grey/blue that could be in the kitchen since it connects to the living room.

When you say "fun", do you mean more colorful, add some whimsy, casual & relaxed, etc.? It would be helpful to define what your goal is in your home.

Will you be keeping the painting over the sofa? It should be lowered to about 6" above the back of the sofa. Too high now. Or, will you be looking for more color in a new painting or rug? Kind of floating out here until you have made some more decisions. Wall color depends upon what you do regarding artwork and/or a rug. Just be honest, brave, and let us know where your thoughts are?

Remove the cone shaped items at the top of the door frame. I do not believe that this is the intended use for them and they look a bit awkward there.

The place for long drapery panels is on the window in the living room - not particularly in the kitchen.

Here are a few color combinations for you to think about - getting a little bit ahead of ourselves though.

I am going for a more relaxed, cozy feel. Really just wanting to see what wall colors people would recommend with what I have at the moment and or what I could do to enhance/add to the look. I do like the painting and its placement because any lower my kiddos would mess with it. I do like the cones with the flowers I have but am open to more suggestions on wall decor.

I would definitely go with a pewter or dove gray on the walls. Your lamps and scatter cushions can be a nice bright color that ties in with a new bright painting or two. Think red, yellow, turquoise, or orange.
Don't hang pictures in steps, unless on a staircase, rather group them together and keep the top or bottom line straight with another like the window's top for example.
Your kitchen doesn't seem to be open plan with this living room, so I would not worry too much about tying the colors together.

We don't have any paint at the moment it is all flat which is why I need recommendations since this is new to us. Also if I decide on doing the kitchen a Grey/blue which connects to my living room (which wall colors are undecided) what's a good color to do for hallways and extra rooms. We are getting our whole house painted since we do not want all the flat paint anymore. Basically I'm up for any ideas I'm just trying to brainstorm since this is our first home.

Just curious about the blue/gray color choice for the walls in your kitchen. Is there a special reason you have chosen that color? Didn't realize you planned on painting all of the rooms and that makes a difference in your plan. Will your kids be choosing colors for their rooms? Are you an "anything goes" parent as far as their choices go, or will you want all of the rooms to coordinate?

I love the blue/Grey color it also compliments our countertops. & painting the whole house is definitely needed since having flat paint makes every imperfection noticable . I don't necessarily want a ton of different colors I would like one specific for the kitchen and living room and then a complimenting neutral color throughout the house.

Which room is the valance in? LR or kitchen? Also, since you are new to managing a project like this, it would help if you made a priority list with baby steps. #1 for you would be to select paint and get the painting done. Then, on to step #2. Pulling it all together at once is overwhelming so accomplish step # 1 now. Trust me, once the ball gets rolling, there will be all kinds of help here on your thread going forward. Patience is the word of the day!

Maybe it is time to go to a paint dept. somewhere and get some swatches, cut out the ones you are thinking about using, and tape them up by themselves on white papers so you can get a true picture of the hue without influence from any other color. Begin to narrow down on the winner.

Then, get a few sample pots of paint and actually paint the possibilities on the wall. This will show you how the colors look in your space with your lighting, time of day, next to each other in the doorway, with your cabinets & countertop, etc.

BTW, the higher the sheen, the more dings will show. Do not go shinier than eggshell or satin finishes.

Please post more pics of your kitchen - need to see the countertop, cabinets, window placement, basically everything. This is certainly not to invade your privacy, it is just so helpful to see what you are dealing with and how it all fits together. You will get much better coaching! I cannot go much farther on your project as it stands. Shots in the dark are really not helpful because you are asking for trouble and mistakes. Ouch!

I realize that this process can be daunting and a huge hassle, but you will find that it gets easier and you will end up with a nicer outcome. Another plus is that you will learn a lot about this interior design stuff as well as about yourself - Promise .

Bottom line ~~ Bring home some swatches - - and get busy!

So glad you took time to post these shots of your kitchen/dinette! It isn't at all what I expected!

One thing you could try right away is to switch your art pieces. Try the LR one in the dinette and the blue floral in the LR. See what you think about having more color in the LR. The one over the sofa might be great with the dining set and in this space generally. This would keep the black, charcoal, light gray, off-whites palette going stronger in there. Then let us see, please?

The corner hutch is wonderful and your white cabinets are very nice too. This home is going to look super when you are finished!

I actually no longer have the blue flower portrait.. right now there is a hand clock in the center of the two windows in the kitchen. Now that you see more of the kitchen do you have color recommendations for the walls? Once I get them painted I'll start testing out new wall decor

Well, have you tried the LR artwork in the kitchen/dinette? It would give you an idea of color there [from the blue floral] or neutrals there [from the LR painting] is what you would like. The black to white spaces are lovely, and if you miss color there, you can always bring in a hit of any color any time through pottery, rugs, etc., leaving the room super versatile.

Paint color. One very easy way to go here is to match the grout lines in the floor or

backsplash tile. They look like the blue-gray you mentioned. Since this color is already installed in here, one of them will certainly work.

As I mentioned before, bring home some swatches, match the grout in either the floor or the backsplash, and see which you prefer.

Below are black/white prints in a kitchen. Cool.

Consider leaving your corner cabinet alone - so it coordinates with the rest of the cabinetry. Some hits of color stored on the shelves inside. Also, could stick up battery operated lights in it for something fun. They are inexpensive and about the size of the palm of your hand.

a nice pale butter yellow paint color for the walls. It will make the colors in your belongings pop without being an offensive wall color. Good luck. and remember it is just paint. Do not like it. can paint another color. about forty bucks and a few hours

If you decide to go with a gray/blue for your kitchen, you can pick a color, from the color sample card that would be two shades lighter or darker (your choice) for living room. I think that the gray/blue will look good with the browns of your furniture. You need to lower your pictures and shelves, they are hung too high.
