Go to HMF and look up the genetic trees of all those roses you might use. Find out what roses are in their backgrounds and what characteristics they might add to the mix. I can tell you from my own experience that the genetic default code for most seedlings is few petals and pink. I've crossed two many petaled yellow roses (Golden Celebration X Graham Thomas) and ended up with 5 petaled pink seedlings, lol! Both, of course, have pink ancestry. There is a huge amount of trial and error and patience required to do breeding but it is always interesting and fun!

Thanks for the response and advice, Seil! 5 petaled pink seedlings, eh? Well, thanks for that dose of needed realism. Ha! I will see what I can find on HMF, as per your recommendation. I have done a little hybridizing of african violets, but this will be my first venture with roses. Have harvested a few random hips from the garden and have them stratifying in the fridge now. I figure it's best to practice the seed-sowing thing, too, so that I don't end up getting a cross to take then messing up in trying to get them to germinate... Thanks again!

White is generally recessive. If you work with a white HT with fairly simple lineage you'll have fewer confounding factors to interfere with your goals.
