I would have checked Idaho as I LOVE the Sun Valley/Sawtooth Valley region, but since it wasn't an option, I went with Washington state where I live.

I wish I could vote at least twice.....picking a fave especially between Maui and California wasn't easy....really, anywhere on the sand and ocean would be my ultimate dream home.

Wow, that's a tough one. Ten years ago or more I'd have said Maui, but for this stage of my life (geezerhood) I'd probably be best off in the midwest. I'm going to say West Virginia, because my pioneer ancestors migrated there and it has a colorful history.

Ha ha, @makaloco, it sure does! I almost didn't vote because of all the tempting choices. I've been to some of these states, but not all; so, I picked Ohio.

Hey River Valley, you could make my cabinets if I moved to West Virginia! My dad's ancestors were early settlers in the Ohio River area near Wheeling.

I guess I would have to go with Oregon,,I lived there for three years and it was really nice, Still go there once a year. Definitely no California..couldn't stand Silicon Valley

I can't vote either as MANY preferred places are not listed. Why these? I agree with Maureen that an "other" option would be a great idea. (Also, love 'Texax'. LOL)

@printesa - I was born in Montreal and lived there for 25 years...have been in Toronto since then, but Montreal will always be very special.

Other: Johannesburg, South Africa, where I am right now. Otherwise, hummm, no NYC on offer ... California because its weather is rather like that of Cape Town, which I know from experience I can survive. But, yes, not too close to Silicon Valley, please. On a wine farm somewhere?

I've only lived in Mtl for one year and I loved it. My husband got a job in the states so I had to come back to the states. Mtl is beautiful..just the taxes in Quebec are a bit much:)

I voted for Florida. Florida, you say?? Isn't that "where your grandparents go to die"? So, yes, I'm a grandparent now...and yes, I will probably die here (not anytime soon I hope since I'm only 66...LOL!), but because (a) the weather is fine and (b) the taxes are beneficial, and (c) because we found THE cutest little town in central Florida (Lake County...a bazillion lakes) called Mount Dora. Like a little New England village on a lake. We are a festival city...too many to mention, and voted one of the top 20 small cities in the country year after year. We have a 3 br2 ba condo in the downtown historic district - 3 short blocks to the center of town with all the quirky little shops and really good restaurants....no national chains allowed downtown. And, do NOT laugh now, but the largest lawn bowling club in the southeast! Right downtown on the lake....lots of fun. You all should come visit us! I volunteer every Monday morning at our Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center in the 1915 train depot...would love to show you around! Come enjoy our beautiful live oaks dripping with Spanish moss.

Hey, y'all haven't read the rules! The rules on the other post stated that @decoenthusiaste was only going for locations in the USA for now.

I assume if the poll comes out CA, OR or WA, we have a zoning work-around?

If you didn't submit your favorite location by 7 p.m. central Saturday night, you may not find it in this poll. These are the states suggested by participating Houzzers. Vote for one of them, and when we start naming our candidates for the next vote (a specific location within the winning state) make your desired spot known so it will be listed in the poll. This will get complicated enough without everyone second guessing the polls after they've been determined, so please participate in the process up front. Zaz has offered to help out, so anyone who wants to take on a segment of the polling is welcome to let me know. It will take all of us to pull this off successfully! Ah well, as one can't actually vote for states that aren't in the list, no harm possible to the poll.

I shouldn't have made so many suggestions but being a Carolina girl at heart, I went back to my home state. Although I must admit my decision was also based on food. I hated living more than a day trip away from Carolina bbq and Cheerwine.
