Need design advice for living room with build-in tv cabinet. Help!

Moving from modern apartment to this old style unit and need to buy all new furniture for my new place. Curently selling all my black and white modern furniture, because I don't think it is suitable for this unit. The TV cabinet is build-in and I have to design all around it. I would like to make this place modern and need advice on colours and style. The kitchen is mix with white and beige colour with black granite top.

I don't want to buy the same type of furniture as TV cabinet (like this furniture on the photos from previous owners!) or black furniture.

The carpet is neutral beige colour, I plan to re-painting the wall behind the TV cabinet. I'm not sure, use this cabinet for TV (big plasma?) or put some big vase on it? Run out of ideas! Please Help!!!

Thank you so much, Caroline! It is very similar to what I was looking for! I like all of them! Love the Lakeview Apartment! I can look at this photos all day! :) I don't particular like that background colour of the TV unit, but haven't thought before that darker colour will suite this wall. May be I should re-paint it in other dark colour, dark grey, dark brown or black? I also have surround audio system (4 tall black speakers ohh..and a base..) 2 have to go somehow at the front, near TV cabinet, not sure what to do with it.

Do you have access to the apartment yet? If so, could you post a photo taken from each corner of the living room towards the other corner? So we can see all walls? And do you have a floorplan with measurements so we could play around with furniture layout options?

The two speakers that need to be close to the TV could maybe flank the cabinet?

Curently don't have access to the place and have to wait for a few more weeks. I just doing preparation now, while I have some time, so I can start doing things as soon as I move in. Don't have a floorplan, but have more photos, hope it helps. The speakers are four floor speakers like on the picture, 106 cm high. Don't like the idea to put them on the sides of tv cabinet..may be one at the corner near window and other some were at the same distance on the other side? I also want to re-paint the entry wall shown on the picture or have idea to put a wall paper on it and were are tv cabinet?

So this is not a rental apartment? You can paint, wallpaper, change window treatments... all that?

Yes, I can do all that :)

    Aha... :-)

Okay: here's what I would do to start with if it were my apartment and I wanted to do a fairly easy job:

    • paint all the walls a soft white (BM White Dove, SW Alabaster, something like that, testing the colour out first to see how it goes with the floor), including the picture rail/molding on the wall
    • paint the window frames black

    • remove the vertical blinds and replace them with solar shades

You really need a floorplan with measurements to be able to figure out possible seating arrangements and sizes for furniture. You can browse the Houzz photos and save photos of rooms and items you like in your ideabooks. That will give you a good idea of what you'd like for your new home.

Or replace the vertical blinds with beautiful curtains like these:

Since you have wall space, it would be good to have some contemporary artwork to really bring out the space as well as add some color. I would recommend artwork from Trang T le. http://www.trangtle.com/
