eggplant not germinating

I put in my eggplant seeds on 1/25 and left them on my counter to germinate. Most of the other seeds germinated except all my eggplant seeds. Should I give up now and resow?

It can take longer for eggplants to sprout. Up to 20 days depending on temp. Just be patient.

It's more than 20 days, I put in the seeds more than a month ago.

I started eggplant on 2/25 and noticed this morning that most have germinated, so that's about 5 days for germination.

No germination after over a month should be a concern, although its possible they could still come up. They really need a warm environment to germinate, more so than many other plants, and maybe they're not getting the heat they need on your counter. A heat mat would likely help with much quicker germination.

I my experience it usually takes about 2 weeks for eggplant to germinate at about 70F and just a week at 75-80F. If you keep your house in the low or mid 60F's, it's certainly possible they will take 4 weeks or maybe not germinate at all. They require much warmer temps than peppers or tomatoes. At this point I'd give them more heat (sunny window, lamp, heat mat, heating vent, top of refrigerator?) and then if nothing comes up after another week then the issue could be related to seeding depth, or possibly too much or inconsistent moisture, or improperly stored seed, etc. Hope that helps a little.

My husband just reminded me of the room at the back of the house that I forgot about. I just moved the pots to that room, next to the windows, that's one of the warmest rooms in the house with afternoon sun. I guess I'll wait a week or so, if I still see nothing, I'll restart.

Oh sorry, I think i was being dyslexic when I read that date. I second the more heat. I had some take about six weeks this year because I had them in a room around 60-65 degrees and colder nights.

I have always had difficulty with slow germination of eggplants until this year. I saved seeds last year from Ping Tung and sowed those this year. I think every seed came up in less than a week. It makes me wonder if I was sowing old seed before. Certainly they need warmth. Do you have them in a sweat box? (which can be as simple as a Ziplock bag). They really do need to stay evenly moist for germination. Also, this seed is easier to get up with light germinating mix rather than potting soil. Just press the seeds into the moist soil and dust more over it. Not too deep! Don't water from above until they come up. If I were you, I would continue waiting on the seeds you started, but I would also sow more. If you wait much longer you won't have time for them to get to transplant size by planting out time.

I will say that while I have not had any trouble getting Ping Tung seeds to germinate, the seedlings sure grow slowly. My tomatoes, planted at the same time, are twice the size. I have to assume that's because my house temp is 67F, and the eggplants just like it warmer. Is that the case?

No sweat box. I soaked them overnight first and then put them on my potting soil, and then a little soil over the top. I left them on my counter before, and then I moved one to above my UPS since it's warm, but still nothing. The rest of them I moved to a west facing window, still nothing. Top of my fridge is stone cold, so can't put them there. Mine seeds are also Ping Tung. I will restart this weekend.

Would you recommend putting them in a moist towel and in a ziplock and then put that ziplock on top of my warm UPS until they germinate then them move them to soil?

When there is uncertainty on a later than normal seed germination, I will usually plant a second box/container.....Having too many plants is a lesser problem than not having any or enough.

And, FWIW, last year I had problems getting eggplant to germinate due to low temperatures. The second planting had excellent germination.
